Chess... a SPORT?!

It does get physical if someone cheats.

What are neutral army rules? Have you played Nuclear risk?

I don't know nuclear risk. I just play traditional risk. In a 2-player game, the neutral army is the ghost player who doesn't take any turns. If I remember correctly, after the initial random deal to determine who gets which 14 countries, player A's placement turn includes putting 2 of his own armies and 1 neutral army. Then same for player B.
The first move advantage is very large, maybe even winning 75% or more of the games.

My friend and I play using 2 colors each and treating them as real players. You can't mix cards and only one color can occupy a continent for bonus armies. Obviously your other color is your Allie. It takes the advantage out of the first move. Either color on one side can win or you are able to wipe out both your opponents colors.

In nuclear risk each side gets one atom bomb to use at whatever turn they choose. You drop the atom bomb on a country and all armies in that country are wiped out and the country remains vacant for 3 turns. It discourages massive build-up of troops in one country.

It seems like that would add a couple of hours to the game.

Ive done Baseball, basketball, hockey, tennis, racquetball, archery, cross country, waterpolo, cycling, and swimming fairly seriously and Ive gotten more exhausted playing in a 4 day chess tournament than I have in any of the other activities (with the exception of when I started swimming and waterpolo, before i got my swimming muscles). Its a sport, highly competitive, physically exhausting, and based on skill, with winners and losers. If you want to call it something else go ahead but I dont really care.
Honestly?
Honestly. Chess can be very intense and draining. We played two games a day at 2 h + 1h/40moves time controls. Each of my games lasted atleast 5 hours except my last one, and the competition was hard as nails, I was calculating every moment I could.
did you get tennis elbow...or is thst chess elbow?
No but I drank an absurd amount of water during the matches.

Chess is not a physical game. You may train physically for it, it may take a toll on you physically, but the winner doesn't depend on anything physical.

Sounds like an interesting sideline. Also sounds like the threat is stronger than the execution.

+1 to Phelon.
Tournament chess...or Magic...or Scrabble...or Halo...is a sport.
I read they might lift the ban on dwarf tossing in Florida. They referred to it as a sport too.

Is poker a sport?
