Chess and cigarettes

Have you noticed that cigarettes destroys your brain capacity? I play very badly if I smoke before the playing.

There's a clip of Anatoly Karpov having a friendly bullet game with Petrosian (I think). The smoke from one of the onlooker's cigarettes makes its way over to Karpov who proceeds to give him the most disgusted look...

Must be enjoyable! I also enjoy cigarettes after good wins.

The new young crop of GM's is doing their best to be very fit.

It's finally also getting rid of the old idea of the smoking alcoholic grandmaster that used to be fashionable. It was a lifestyle. Ie. go to chesstournaments with ashtrays next to the chessboard and pass out in the bar at 4 in the morning waking up just in time for your game the next day. (I've read a lot of Timman's storybooks..)

Too bad that made chessclubs and tournaments impossible for many. (Like myself born with cystic fibrosis having to do many hours of therapy and exercise a day to stay alive while you enjoyed your free right to blow smoke in other people's faces.) Till the last decade or so.

I would imagine you perceive to play worse because your opponent smells a smoker and is extra motivated to win.

How about cigar? Puffing cigar while playing otb chess will help u win. Unless your opponent is a cigar smoker too.
