Usually that is a function of the GUI being used in conjunction with the engine. For example, I use SCID vs PC with Stockfish for post-game analysis. When the engine is active in the interface, it will show the current evaluation of the position and the line it is calculating, or lines,if you have it configured to show more than one
Chess engine question
It's not engine-specific. It requires a gui (graphical user interface) that displays these kind of things from the engines output.
For example the engine shows an evaluation like +0.34
This means white has an advantage of about one third of a pawns worth.
If the number is negative, black has an advantage.
It also can display several different moves.
The best one has +0.34
The next best one +0.27
and so on.
Oh well right now I use Droid fish and Analyze this. I downloaded SCID but I don't see how you setup it up so you the engine tells you + or -. Is there a GUI I can download and use with either of these programs ?
Droidfish is totaly capable of what you want.
Tap on the "M" and then you get several options. One of them is "Analysis".
Then it shows the evalutation on the bottom of the screen while you can do the moves for both sides. It will also show with arrows what it thinks is the best move for each player in the situation.
I always hear people say in analyses that the engine they are using says a certain position is more favorable for white or black or that one move would be better than another. How do you see that? Or is it a engine specific feature?
