An interesting quote from Eric Hoffer: " Old age equalizes - we are unaware that what is happening to us has happened to untold numbers from the beginning of time. When we are young, we act as if we were the first young people in the world. "
Chess for Oldtimers --- Good Idea !

I love the optimism and energy of youth but they don't understand that we were young once too and faced many of the stresses and problems they face today.

No social media, smart phones or computers which stress a lot of youngsters out. Life was simpler in my youth.

I used to chuckle about old people with rose-colored memories, who deluded themselves into believing things were so much better in "the good old days." But .... (you all saw a "but" coming, didn't you?) ... quiet, peaceful times were much easier to come by. A vacation could be an actual "getaway" when employers didn't expect to be able to reach us any time, any place ...and panic-inducing news didn't come at us from everywhere, in a continuous bombardment. I've noticed that those of us who remember the difference seem better at giving ourselves regular "off the grid" spaces of time. At least some wisdom still comes with age.
Plus, of course, these kids today, with their loud music, their awful clothes, their bad manners, and most of all, their constant mumbling. Why can't they just speak up, for pete's sake? If they'd simply enunciate, and speak a little louder, I could hear them just fine, thank you very much... and they don't have to shout --right? It's not like I'm "hard of hearing" or something ..... hurumph, huhrumph ...

You're sounding a lot like my mother back about '67/'68/'69
Recently I was going thru some greeting cards at a store and came across a cute item. On the front cover it read: " What is it that Retired People can do that hardly anybody else can do ? " Then inside there was written: " Wake up in a Good Mood on Monday mornings ! "

Don't even remember what a Monday is. Since I retired a couple years ago, EVERY day is a Saturday. :-)
I just came across an item that really made me feel older: " You remember when movie theaters had ushers. "

i do. and, it was also in a seinfeld episode!
then, they were gone, for the most part. now, they are coming back. at least at some places.
wifey and i have a theater near us that serves food and drinks.
"usher, i will have a yuengling and the lady will have a chardonnay. we may choose an appetizer upon your return, my dear lad".
Thanks for the post AlCzervik. Sort of a combination of an usher and a waiter I would imagine. I mainly like to wait for movies to come out on video and then watch them at home.
An interesting quote from Tommy Mein: " After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead ".
And yet another sign that you might be getting older " You sneezed and threw your back out for a week. "
Thanks for the new posts.
