Chess for Oldtimers --- Good Idea !

Another thought...

If he were to put in a solid 10 minutes per day, I would wager that within the next 5 years he COULD break 1200.

This is just an educated guess, though. I would place five bucks on it, so as to put my money where my mouth is.

Okay, you're on! (not really, I just wanna give cab some incentive).

How about making it an hour though?  An hour for two years.  Hey cabadenwurt, are we asking for too much here?

e4nf3

He's too old for an hour...fatigue from arthritis, cataract eye-strain, diabetes type 2, peripheral neuropathy, high bloo...wait a minute...I think I'm talking about myself. Never mind.

Problem with you, lad...you ain't got no nuts. lol

Wow, for someone redefining his image and sincerely want everyone...yes, even CC players...to like him, you sure aren't trying very hard. So far the only thing you've redefined is your avatar.

I'll wager if you'd play just one game, you WOULD break 'Unrated'.

e4nf3

So...you want a piece of me?

e4nf3

You drew first blood.

Oh...and talk about being unfriendly:

I've blocked her, disabled the chat in our games, and have discussed it with a staff member, who advised me to ignore her. However that doesn't stop the issue of players being able to use the tournament pages to harrass others. One suggestion I can think of would be that TDs be in charge of moderating tournament homepages and have to approve posts before being published. The other would be that violators have the privilege of posting removed. This would keep the tournament pages friendly and free of negative communication from players that have been blocked from other forms of communication. As to personal homepages, if used for personal attacks, perhaps all content could be removed and that person forbid from making any changes on it or posting on others homepages. What I'm hoping is accomplished is that chess.com be a friendly site and muzzle those who choose to be unfriendly.

And...blah...blah...blah... If anyone ever sounded like a pompous ass and an old fart, it is you. And, as you may recall...many were bothered by your excessive bloviating and you were even asked if you wanted some cheese to go with your whine. Get over yourself.

And, using a data base while playing chess is a fraud. That's why I don't play online. Your fake ratings mean absolutely nothing to me.

You wanna play me...get your fat butt over here and we'll play some real chess.

Seems I've drawn first and only blood. Give me an address for "over here", I'll post you a crying towel.

e4nf3

You want more?

catnapper

No thanks, I believe you've quite adequately "redefined" yourself.

Stop picking on old people.

Well " Good Grief Charlie Brown ", I spend a day or two doing yardwork and other chores around here and while I'm away people are having all kinds of fun in this thread  lol. Also I see AndyClifton and Mr.e4--- are trying to determine why I've got such a rather poor performance at Chess. It sort of reminds me of my rather poor performance at Baseball. After going thru the first 3 grades of School back in the Black Forest I started off in Grade 4 over here and the first game that I learned to play here was Baseball and I played it for several years thru to Grade 8. There was only one small problem in that I was a terrible Baseball player but I loved to play the game. Same with Chess in that I love to play. If I have a game of 50 moves or more with a fellow Woodpusher and we end up in a Draw then that was probably a fun game. It may come as no surprise that I have never been a diligent Scholar, just barely passing thru the grades in School. History and Electronics were the only subjects that I had any interest in at all. Electronics would in time lead me to a career and History is still an area of interest for me. Anyway, please no wagering on my progress as serious studying is not likely to occur any time soon  lol.

e4nf3

I played some baseball, too. But, where I grew up (same place as Bobby Fischer...same years) stick ball was in vogue. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stickball

Oh yeah, and thanks for the Spiro (or was that Safire?) quote.  Agnew was a lot of fun back in his day.  That was a guy who knew how to shake up the turkeys...

I'm not sure who spouted it, but Pat Buchanan wrote it for 'im.  Well, according to Buchanan, anyway.

e4nf3

I'm glad that I played chess when I was young. Somehow, since then, chess was always "in my blood".

Andy, I don't think e4nf3 is in Greenland any more...check his flag!  I don't think Cape Verde is particularly cold, being that it lies off the west coast of northern Africa!

e4nf3

Well, I do get around. Right now, I'm up in Alberta having lunch (sauerbraten and lager) with cabby.

cabadenwurt

Thanks for all of the recent posts. Also that is my type of lunch --- good stuff !

cabadenwurt

Thanks to Mr.e4--- for the updates. In my case I had done some work on Farms going back to a early age. Then a couple of years after leaving School I started a 30 year career on a major Railway up here where I mainly worked on the troubleshooting and repair of Diesel-Electric locomotives. It was an interesting field that included potential problems in Electronics and Electricity plus also Remote control equipment in the case of Robot-trains.

I find this page, rather strange and the above discussion rather infintile, considering it title "CHESS FOR OLD TIMERS" Age should bring wisdom, not senility   I think I am one of the oldest , if not the oldest, (professional consideration forbid being exact) I recently  re-dicoverd the joy of chess, and chess.com and its  wonderful facility to play with people all over the world. Love the game and the site
