Thanks for the recent posts.

AndyClifton: Good point because there are too many studies on the go and sometimes they do more harm than good. I remember a few years ago the experts said that a study told them that Alzheimers came from using Aluminium Cooking pots, well that one was a real dud. I like to quote studies that agree with my point of view and ignore the others ( I should have a 50% chance of being right ). Laughing

Rooperi: On the other hand you are correct in that one should not take too many chances, that is a good point too.

However, excessive belief in studies leads to brain atrophy (and death).

Recent studies have concluded that continuous breathing for a period of more than 7, 8, or 9 decades ultimately results in what researchers have claimed to be a 100% death rate.

(***Further research was recommended, so don't hold your breath ...)

Thanks for the post Motherinlaw. Time does take it's toll and each Year we complete another trip around the Sun. Death & Taxes seem to be two things that we cannot avoid.

Today I saw something very encouraging in the forums. It seems that MissDollyinCalif is starting a group for Chessplayers that are aged 80 and up. Mind you I'm quite a ways from that level yet but it is nice to think of such a group being there. Smile

Thanks for the posts. When I have my Brunch here in the mornings I like to work on  Crossword Puzzles, I find them a challenge. Mind you English is not my first language and even tho I have been in Canada for over 50 years I find many surprises in the words first used by the Anglo-Saxons.

I'm 70 and have been playing chess since I was 11. I love chess, not only does it keep my mind from deteriorating but actually improves my ability to concentrate. Another benefit of chess is that it gives me an excuse to get out of my room and go down to the chess club where to play and socialize. Also it gives me an excuse to get some exercise since my club is some distance from my home and so I get a good walk out of it as well.

Thanks for the post Frank124c. I'm very glad to hear that you are getting a lot of enjoyment out of playing Chess as well as the other benefits that you mentioned. Chess is definitely a interesting Game to play.

OldHastonian

Further to frank124c's  comment, isn't it great when someone states "I love chess"...it elevates it to something beyond just a game.

cabadenwurt

Thanks for the post OldHastonian, yes it is truly very encouraging to see that type of enthusiasm for Chess.
