Just stirring the pot a bit instead of studying chess, 'cause at the end of the day, there are those who could give a rat's about what others think of their current rating on a website or anything for that matter.

I agree. There are enough online resources available for a kid to get pretty good, if they've got any talent at all. Parents who would waste money on a chess coach for an average kid, have no common sense, whatsoever.
I have seen profiles here, where the person says they give simuls, won a few open tourneys and say their writing. But when I look them up on the USCF site they are 1600-1800 and did not get the results they said they did. I think its to bad chess.com allows some ppl to burn new players just because they paid for the Diamond membership....money, money, money

theres a guy who's rated about 1500 on youtube, his name is the BackYardChessProfessor and I think he's a pretty good teacher!
I remember reading about a famous Russian fictional character who was chess teacher and he knew all the terminology but could not play wortha spit. Perhaps one of our Russian friends could enlighten us...

I taught myself to play, as did all my chess pals. There wasn't a lot of money flying about for kids to employ coaches. Whatever happened to "self-taught"?
