Well, I started UNREATED and then my first opponent resigned after just 2 moves. Now I'm at 1346 and don't think this reflects the sorry state of my ability. Just saying.
Chess rating system

why is chess.com is so stupid?
who are those imbeciles whi founded this site?
It's not chess.com that's stupid. After reading many posts on this thread, I find it inconceivable that you people that want to learn an intellectual game like chess and can figure out how to use a computer can't figure out a simple ratings system with all the information available. If you can't figure it out, you're just lazy and will forever be a sub 900 player. (that's bad btw)
Why does my online rank shows N/A? I've been I member for over 4 years now, and I have played 83 online games already. Can you please explain? Thanks.
It doesn't show N/A when I look at your online rating; it shows 2039. Maybe it was just a hiccup in a server somewhere.

Hey guys!!!!!Want to increase your rating by several hundred points in a few months? Check out GM Igor Smirnov's chess courses http://chess-teacher.com/product/rca-advanced-package/

not sure if it has been mentioned...but was wondering if the rating system calculates the win +21 loss -16 draw +1 result type at the point the match starts or at the point the match ends?
If you started playing someone at 1400 on long time controls and he is now 2000 when your match ends, are you being graded against the 1400 or the 2000?
thanks for any help.

@Smoking:
99% sure it calculates it for whatever his rating is when the match ends (2000 in this case). I have been known to be wrong (often ).

On other sites, they select the highest rating. I don't remember whether this site does the same, but that's the one that makes the most sense in this style of correspondence chess. Time forfeit losses tend to lower ratings more than TF wins raise them.

Just to verify for you guys, it is calculated at match end! On very rare occassions this means that you'll see +21 loss -16 draw +1 and get +22 for a win.

play at least 1000 and that it should show up sooner or later.

wait...+21 loss?
I could be a player of 1400 but my rating is 3000. how?
If you play with bad people it will plus you 1 or 2 and 99% of the times you will win them because they are so bad. So if you play many games with bad people, in each one it pluses you 1 so if you are 1400 you need to win 1600 games that it pluses you 1 to be 3000.
Example108, that doesn't work because eventually you either win zero rating points for beating them, or the small percentage of losses makes you lose as many rating points as the many wins combined.
Ratings can be inflated. They can't be inflated by 1600 points unless you're actually fixing games or something.
