Chess Thinking
^^ I think I do that too :p
I used to take postions to poinder and print them so I could mull over them while driving lol
NO! I didn't look at the printout while driving, only while at traffic lights and I would go over the moves in my head while driving :p
Last summer I played like 8-12 hours a day practically everyday, it was pretty much all i did. After a while I started dreaming about it. I don't think any of it made any sense, just exchange after exchange but they were really intense. I'd wake up and it felt like I never slept at all. Then back at it again.
And I thought I was the only one. :)~ zzz...Zzz...Ng5!t...zzz

I'm always playing someone I don't know, it's always the middlegame that I'm playing in the dream. I never remember playing the opening or endgame, just the middlegame. Usually I'm trying to mount an attack, but I don't enough space to maneuver and my position is really cramped, while my opponent has alot of free space to launch an offensive. >_<

Lately I've been dreaming about playing chess....
I personally believe that when you start dreaming about chess you start to see real improvements in your chess visualisation and overall game.
There have been scientific studies that demonstate that you actually learn during the deepest deep wave states - but you need approximately 5 hours uninterrupted sleep to reach deep enough states.
Looking at it from an evolutionary sense, the human brain is very adaptable at solving problems in the environment. I think spending a large amount of time studying/playing chess kind of 'tricks' the brain into believing that solving chess patterns is somehow essential to survival...

It's called "Visualization". It has also been called guided imagery, mental rehearsal, mediation, and a variety of other things -- no matter the term, the basic techniques and concepts are the same. Generally speaking, visualization is the process of creating a mental image or intention of what you want to happen or feel.
An athlete can use this technique to 'intend' an outcome of a race or training session, or simply to rest in a relaxed feeling of calm and well-being. By imagining a scene, complete with images of a previous best performance or a future desired outcome, the athlete is instructed to simply 'step into' that feeling. While imagining these scenarios, the athlete should try to imagine the detail and the way it feels to perform in the desired way. Whether your a baseball player, bowler, golfer or a skater, visualization is key in improving your game.
As chess players we too should increase our visualization efforts. Go over game positions in our head. I have even played a few moves in my sleep because I was so into my studying and reading. I like dreaming of games in my sleep. I once remembered a game position that I had dreamed about and it was being played in a tournament i was in a few months later. It help! Just my 0.02 cents.

You know, 0.02 cents isn't really worth that much, anyway. Why do we make such a big deal out of it? I'd much rather have at least 2 cents. Then I could leave them in the "Leave a penny" jar and think I've done a good deed for the day.
