1800-2000 is about the limit without putting a lot of work in. I mean 5-10 times more work than it took to reach that range to begin with. So it depends what you want to spend your time on. I like to play chess and dabble around with opening theory, etc., but not to study chess hardcore. I rarely have ever met people significantly past 1800 who did not have training at some point, either.

It's like anything else...could you be a brain surgeon? Sure. But how many people want to put that much time and effort in? Over-specialization is a problem in the modern world. Don't give up your life for a title or slave your life away for accolades.

That's why I used to love Votechess (but chess.com is not really supporting it anymore, and it is not checked for cheating so engine use is rampant) because you take so much time and there's so much discussion on a good team that it's like hardcore studying in an interactive/playing format which hides the drudgery.

thatsa little much...doncha feel ?

the earth will be engulfed by the sun

kinda dramatic...ykw ?...i think uv been watching too much tv

Dramatic if you want it to be Lola.
Facts not fiction.
Orbits decay.
Stars eventually go nova or supernova or whatever.
Lola did you know the earth orbits the sun?
It really does. They knew about it before TV.
And it isn't about 'you and me' either.
No kidding.
Did you know a quarter of Americans don't believe the earth orbits the sun?
That's right. Its called Geocentrism.
Kinda cute ey?
The Geos.
Could probably make a good limerick about it.

Hi Lola. Sometimes I am short of ... time.
And Time ... always catches up.
1700? Nice.
If I had all my chess to do over again and I had started off with the Caro Kann and the slav and 1) Nf3 with white (but with no Reti - what on earth would I want to play a Benoni-reversed kind of position for?) then I would have reached 1700 strength much faster than I did and with a steeper learning curve.
What level would I have then reached?
I don't know. It wouldn't have been earthshaking.
On good days I played about 2000 strength but never reached master strength.
It was similiar with my tennis.
-------------------
Back in those days there was no internet and therefore no tactics puzzles - which I think is the shortest route to higher chess skill. It gets right down to business.

could you be a brain surgeon?

UR a brain surgeon (on me).

Thee_Ghostess_Lola

Lola did you know the earth orbits the sun?

very funny. my eyes are orbiting up cuzza u/that one.

On good days I played about 2000 strength

(and bad dayz ?) iows u were a grandpatzer (1700-2199). a super grandpatzer is 2200-2299 w/out any title.

No, it can't. Mute can leave blank pages (the link to last page points to a page beyond the real last page), but unmute can only make the last page point to an earlier page instead of the right one.

The reason for both is that the number of posts changes due to a mute or unmute, but the last page number is not updated to be consistent (as it should be).

Sounds right.

ok let:

n = 5515652263101987298728728207430913795608113109085112352897269396216198887424215820128660001943808587833784893551335930816647064191168732319583111500951066614122648616177179922993422016587311577585463592732098692120576

its very roughly 5.5 x 10^217 right ?

...this number snuffs out the sextic, quintic, quartic, cube, & square root to yield a whole number. try it...lol ! (think pig, truffle, & nicolas cage)

for example: 6√n = a whole number

(doncha luv big giant numbers ?!)

The touch move rule is not dumb at all.

im good w/this one. just so u dont move it outta the square - and airborne ? ..no.

which triggers a viewfoil question. can u throw a piece across the parlor and NOT get DQ'ed ? ...like say at tata steel ?

more like TATA STEAL am I right?

playerafar

Rules about throwing pieces.
Fancy variations on touch move.
Quite a lot of pun potential there.
'If you touch it you move it.'
'If you break it you own it. The loss that is.'
