Chess...a game apart

One thing I have discovered about the game of chess is that it is not like other games. Number one, you can't learn the game of chess simply by watching it. I know how many times I tried to learn about the game this way but it just seemed impossible, the more I tried the more confusing I became.

This makes a lot of people who cannot play the game to be biased towards the game.

I have also found out that frequent playing of chess makes ones game in other board games to improve considerably. This is because the game of chess is an extremely broad game.

I give kudos to the inventors of chess, by the way could any one fill me in on who invented the game of chess. I would really love to know who such people were.

I know chess is a historic game and that is another unique aspect of the game. Unlike most other games, chess has a very interesting history you know, being one of the only game that helped kings of old to plan wars and even win as a result of the strategic importance of chess. That is why most of the moves in chess is derived from most of the war strategies that were employed by kings of old; talk about the britons, saxons, spaniards, romans etc.

Bodily exercise is a good thing, but how about mental exercise.

Most people are into yoga and stuff like that. It could be right for them.

But for some, it could be the game of chess, thus chess could also pass out for mental alertness exercise. Some people actually play chess for the purpose of mental exercise, due to the energy involved in thinking, concentrating and planning.

At the end of the day, you discover that chess is not just a game, but a game apart.

So keep up the playing, keep up the fun and keep loving the game of chess.

My shout out to all chess lovers and good players out there

I think of chess as a unique sort of puzzle.  Though there is language comparing chess moves to military ones, I think chess is at the same time  more more complex and  simpler.  More complex because with skill it is possible to predict with certainty a complex series of moves which tests a players ability to visualize, or have the wisdom to realize that given a certain position, no matter what an opponent does a game is won.  On the other hand, chess is simpler because you don't have to worry about what the troops will do in light of commands of subordinates, everything is happening simultaneously, you don't have to worry about the quality of troops, logistics, weather or a hundred other variables.

I think Napoleon has been credited with having said that "chess is too complex to be a game and too trivial to spend time on", or something similar.

Let's remember that Napoleon's was too preoccupied with taking over dominion of the empire's of the world that he had little time for anything, especially when such things were time consuming.

People like Hitler, King Xerxes of Persia, etc, from records would have had nothing else on their mind but to conquer.

Perhaps Napoleon did not need the strategies of chess cos he believed the ultimate strategy was no retreat no surrender. But sometimes, you just have to look back and know when to withdraw and not retreat, so that you can attack with a stronger strategy. I think that is what Napoleon really lacked.

Chess teaches us that don't  you think?
