Crap standard

God what a weak lot of players on this site.  I won all my games except for the last one which was a draw - exchanged down to a knight each with 30 seconds left.  I let the clock run out for a draw but apparently that is a loss to me - lol.  And you gui is crap as well.

I wont be back as the standard is way low here.

You and saidh should get a game going. You're whining in this thread and he's apparently off calling people garbage players to their face. You'd get along well.

See ya! Wouldn't wanna be ya!

I hope you get your backside handed to you on FICS or wherever else you go :-)

Playing devils advocate, his experience was exactly how he explained it to be. Frankly, the site admins should be taking notes.  Its quite useless to make comments like "Don't let the door hit you on the way out.", he told you what problems he had with the website, so why not take him up on his individual points?

First, could the GUI use work?  Fics is pretty good, and ICC/playchess are amazing.

Second, he really did play a bunch of players below his level, which signals that the RD may be set too low.  Why does it take 7 straight wins to get to 1646?  It might also be worth telling him how rating systems work.

Third, why did this man not know how to claim a draw, in other sites indeed a draw will be declared if you run out of time, what happened here?  Is there a differant way to draw and he wasn't aware of it (such as a claim draw system) or does the site not recognize knight + king draws?  If this website uses an unfamiliar drawing system, it might be worth it to inform him of how it works.

My take on the issue.

He could claim a draw by hitting the 'draw' button. He ran out of time, and as a mate is technically possible from that position (a helpmate, but a mate nonetheless) he lost.

You know, we should get some people that are rated above 1611. Too bad we don't have any of those.

700,000+ satisfied members...1 pissed off guy with low self esteem..Not a bad site!

So this website does use a claim draw button, thats good.  But I'm saying this right now, if a new member loses a game because he didn't know how to claim a draw, or that he had to claim a draw, the system could use improvement IMO.

I don't think he CAN claim a draw in K+N vs. K+N. That is not technically insufficient material. He would have to have reached 50 moves or tried to sac his knight. If insufficient material is on the board, the game is an auto-draw.

I like how he based his entire experience on 8 games in live chess...there is a bit more to chess.com than that, but hey.

Rainbow, are you worried you are no longer alone?  Laughing

As you can see mate is possible in K+N  vs K+N  so it is not an automatically drawn position.

Even if he was genuinely trying to get a point across, he should have tried constructive criticism.  Just insulting the site will get you nowhere.

Just looked it up and you are technically correct according to FIDEs rules of chess.

10.4

The game is drawn when one of the following endings arises:

(a)
king against king;
(b)
king against king with only bishop or knight;
(c)
king and bishop against king and bishop, with both bishops on diagonals of the same colour.

This immediately ends the game.

I guess I was wrong then.  In that case, his opponent is just a twit.  Seriously, if someone did that to me during a tournament I would jump across the table and strangle them, being immoral and all.

Avatar of sstteevveenn

Online, yeah, maybe; it's hardly serious.  Otb though, if my opponent had after a series of exchanges 2 seconds to make 10 moves to a time control and we each had a knight, I doubt I would be accepting any draw offers.  I would shake hands at the time control however.

My enjoyment to this site never was satisfied by live chess.  People on live chess don't typically play focused (including me).  I have found better quality chess with turn-based chess and that kind of chess is what influenced my membership here.  There seems to be more pain when losing in online, rather than live.

This guy is just trying to get a rise with you all (including me).  His comments here is as much garbage as the typical squabble on live chess I experienced in the past; therefore nothing new to me.

The forum trolling standard, however, has been set much higher than this.  I mean, it's not even creative or funny -- just inflammatory.
