Diamond membership titled player

Yep, having lots of titled players lends credibility and confers many other benefits on a site, so it is a shrewd business move to woo titled players with gifts like free accounts. ICC also gives free memberships to IMs and GMs, but not to lesser titles.

Having titled players active here was actually a huge inducement to laying down the cash for my membership, now I think in my 3rd year.   However if I was more strapped for cash I would be happy here as a free rider.  I hung out here playing live chess and participating in forums for at least a year before going "diamond".

How about if you USED to be an NM like, 5 years ago?

Could you still apply? There are many former titled players...

If you were ever an NM you are still an NM , the title is for life as are FIDE titles .

Abhishek2

there are some basic members who USED to be titled players.

Hey, I resent that!

Pawnpusher3

Well obviously titles aren't taken away... they are given and last for life. You could pass 2200, get your master title and then suddenly drop all the way back to 2000 after a horrendous tournament and not lose your title.

AndyClifton

May be obvious to you (but it wasn't true until 2002).

Pawnpusher3

Well if thats the case, then you should go back to the USCF and request that your title be returned, because that is their current policy. If your rating is not at that point, then maybe you can just play your way back up to 2200 and regain your title.

AndyClifton

All NM titles were declared to be for life in 2002.

What? To get a diamond membership all I have to do is show my NM certificate? Really?

AndyClifton

Abhishek2

oh wow...that's sad.

AndyClifton

Abhishek2

AndyClifton

Are you talking to me?  I had one on my old account.

AndyClifton

Many many years ago I was sorta of cheated from becoming a USCF master--this was 40 years ago and for 40 years my USCF rating has been exactly

2188--does this mean if I decide to play and get that USCF rating to 2200 I could be a diamond member free?

Abhishek2

Wait..isn't having multiple accounts cheating?

No, as long as you don't play yourself to gain rating points
