Disabling chat is rude

Chess is about chess, not chat.
That's why we are discussing chess in the chats.

I simply block and report those who say rude things these days. That way, I only face them once, and the staff can either warn or boot them.
I find it rude to disable chat. If you don't want to chat, you can always just ignore it. There is no requirement that you answer, or even read the chat line, it is an optional thing but probably not very appropriate in blitz mode. There also should be some way to only play opponents will to chat, or only play opponents unwilling--the controversy is when the opposites meet.

Disabling the chat isn't rude, what's rude are impatient f*cktards you get every once in while that say ''move'', ''go'' or ''are you going to move?"... when any of that crap happens, I promptly disable the chat. This site hasn't been too bad with the impatient a**holes but playing on other sites without a disable chat feature, I very much appreciate that feature here. Would love to find a good checkers site with a disable chat option too. I also find ''gl'' and ''gg'' (if they're the winner... yeah good game.. for you) to be somewhat rude as well but I won't disable the chat over it, impatient rude players though, I definitely will disable the chat. Also once in awhile you'll get a troll... met a guy on here that would talk about incest constantly or try to say they're better or crap like that. That is the reason you have the disable chat option... I think chess.com were smart for adding it and it helps individuals such as myself with a vivid temper that can disable the chat and focus my energy more on beating them in the game.

If your opponent had never known you and disabled chat in a game, I find it pretty rude. It doesn't let you communicate even the most simplest talk, like "gl" or "gg."
Think about it... If your opponent doesn't want to use chat, would you prefer if he disabled chat, or if he didn't disable chat, but also didn't respond to anything you said?

It wouldn't be necessary if people were civil and good sportsman there's too much drama swearing and childish noise if you leave it on.

The reason why I disable my chat is because people are rude to me. The rudeness usually comes in a form of rascism.

I disable chat in LIVE chess and it is most certainly not because I try to be rude to anyone. If you want to chat, you can always ignore ME. There is no requirement that you have to chat to me during the game. Message me afterwards.

If someone disables chat immediately at the start of your game it's virtually certain that they just have the "no chat" box checked. If you're taking that personally, then that's your problem.
If they disable you after you've said something to them, then they must have found your comment rude or distracting. In this instance you are also probably the problem.
Players can disable chat if they want to. I just simply refuse to play against them and will block anyone who disables chat. I think those of us who enjoy chatting to others should have the option of not being paired against those who disable chat.

JRTK73,
Honest question - do you also block and quit against people who just don't respond to your greetings?
No. I simply block and abort against anyone who disables chat. Then I go to that person's profile and either write a note on their wall or send them a message as to why I aborted that game. I don't really mind if people don't see gg after a game - I'm sure I have forgotten to do so a number of times.

honestly if someone showed up to an otb game with large headphones, made no eye contact, and proceeded to play as normal i would first #1: laugh and probably make some opening mistakes. 2: think it was a bit rude that they didn't say hi. 3: get over it because who really cares?

I don't mind if a player disables chat immediately. There's a lot of people on Live that would rather chat than play. Some players only want to focus on the game at hand and would rather not chat altogether.
A 'hi' or a 'hello' is the only non-chess related chat I want coming from my opponent. Beyond that it has to be all about chess and none of... 'So where do you live?...So what are your plans this weekend?..
They gotta get up out of here if they do. Can't be with that sweet stuff. Nah
Chess.com should have the option that [EDIT] another site [/EDIT] has. They allow you to use pre-created chat options like "gg," "Nice playing with you," "didn't see that coming," etc.
Haha, I "mod edited" my own post.
