the present rules forbid this. note the words first rank

I've seen this before. It's an illegal move now, but with earlier chess-rules this was legal.

mrulekleiv is correct as per old rules this move was legal.but now it was illegal move
it was legal move when puzzle designed later the rules have been changed.
obviously it was illegal move now days.but it was legal move in olden days.
its a funny puzzle ,old rules has modified now.
