I see my favorite German city, Hamburg, is rated #13. I must try to visit more often!

but why is it behind haldiki, dont get me wrong it might be a great citiy, but i never heard of it, while Hamburg has many international masters and GMs. I also dont get why Dortmund is so way behind, man i liked the Dortmund tournaments the most.

I may be wrong but the Reason Anand doesn't live in India is because all the Big-Money tournaments take place in Europe and it is much more convenient for him if he stays in Spain.I heard this is an interview.

Me too.

And I was shocked to see Philadelphia ahead of New York.

No surprise that my city was not on the list - despite being one of the largest in the US, we have one tiny chess club that has to take up donations just to keep the doors open. And it really has no financial justification even at that, the owner is just a fanatic. When he is gone I have little doubt it will just close up.

jesterville

I don't either..but I wished I did.

Especially considering all that chess history with the Marshall chess club, did Morphy also play in New York???

You're right. In fact, Spain is the country where most tournaments are played in the world (at least before the financial crisis).

There are also underground tournaments where you can play for money in pubs, at your own risk. 1st price is usually 300 euros. Entry fee 15 euros, one drink free :)

Yes I do. It's true that it's very easy for people who like chess to get involved here.
