RC, have you ever been to a scholastic chess tournament?  The pre-adolescent sections are about equally male and female. Girls stop playing chess when their cohort males become adolescent.

I believe there are fewer women in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Science type fields. I think it has more to do with social and cultural pressures/norms than (smelly) adolescent boys.

Same can be said of chess.

Your premise is silly.  There has NEVER been a major increase in the interest of chess with the public to due a "glamorous" woman.  If I'm wrong prove it. You won't be able to do so.  This whole thread is just an excuse by shallow boys to talk about "hot chicks" who play chess.  Just stupid and insulting to both chess players and women who might otherwise be interested.  Think about some young girl, say a teenanger, who is checking out Chess.com because they're interested in chess.  Now, they come across THIS THREAD and they have to start wondering what kind of abuse, come ons, or just stupidity they'll have to deal with because they are a girl.   Your justification is shallow and dare I say juvenille.  You have not insulted me, far from it. If you think that that is why I'm now posting here you've COMPLETELY missed the points of my arguement.

Girls/women have to deal with so much sexual crap because of their gender that men don't have to deal with and this thread is just another example of the stupitidy that I'm referring to.  Why is this?  I could try to answer that question but I won't bother, it's enough to just notice that it's true.   So, excerise your freedom of speech but notice the ignorance of your argument and how you will TURN OFF most any female to this community when they read most of the thoughts (except for mine) that are posted herein.

Your constant white knighting will not make the girls like you, you hitting the gym will.

I'm sorry, but if a girl goes on chess.com, sees this thread of an illiterate dweeb asking if chess has any attractive people and she gets offended/gets afraid of future abuse ect and AVOIDS THIS SITE because of it then my only question is how the hell she managed to stay on the internet for longer than ten minutes.

Females dont need you to put on your raging act, if they're offended by a thread I'm sure they'll have the common sense to press that arrow that tends to be on the top left side of the browser.

Sorry but I have to repeat myself.
You're dull.

You are of course entitled to your opinion, as wrong headed as it might be.

The last comment I'd posted was with direct regard to frendu's ascertion that "glamerous" girls would make chess more popular.  If you think that this kind of thing doesn't turn off people to chess or that a youngsters parent's might see it and decide that this website is inappropriate for their "tween" or "teen" girl then you, my friend, are just wrong.  Believe me, I'm no moralist.  I really believe and support the notion that you, I and the OP are entitled to our ideas and opinions no matter how silly they might be.  My point is that to not address ignorance and stupidity directly is to give it tacit approval and allow it to thrive unfettered.   I may be jaded but I'm not that jaded.

Jeez what is wrong with you?   I mean dude, if you're so shallow that you seriously sit around wondering if their are "hot girls" who play chess at least have the common sense to do it quietly and do  google search on your own instead of posting a thread about it appearing (if not actually being) a complete idiot.

A passed pawn comes home from work one day driving a fancy new car. His wife is astonished and says "Honey, I don't think we can afford this nice new car on your salary." The passed pawn says "Relax, I'm about to get promoted!"

Okay, so this about the 3rd or 4th time in this post you've had decided to point out that you're a 20year old engineering student.  It seem as though you're bragging about how grown up you are.  Okay, well let's put it this way I've been a tournament player since 35 years BEFORE you were born.  I have advanced degrees and I see no reason to point it out as it has no relevance to this discussion.  You have NO IDEA what my level of education is but you, once again, assume that you have some sort of deeper knowledge. I have news for you young man, you are a young man.  You are barely an adult and the shallowness of your opinions, weakness of your arguement and inability to clearly argue your point (oh, you weren't REALLY talking about chess but rather tennis, I see) has made this discourse increasingly meaningless as you seem to have no ability to understand nuance and emotions in the real world.  Perhaps this is an "english as a second language" issue (but I'd doubt it).

Hopefully as you grow into mature adulthood you'll understand my position better.  For those around you I sincerely hope this to be the case.

Two other points.  First I've never heard of SANIYA MIRZA, as I'm sure practically no one outside of India as either.  Second your notion that chess is in some sort of crisis is incorrect.  If you look at prize money, number of tournaments and perhaps, most importantly the sheer number of chess professionals who can make a living from chess or chess related activites I think most would agree that while chess is not on par with any major sport, it's certainly in better shape than at pretty much any other time in the modern era.

Enough. Pearls to swine.

Fendu, you and your arguments in this thread are making me sick:

Ew. If we're talking tennis, it should be about people who are actually attractive, like Ana Ivanovic, or Wozniacki or Koetzer or Kirilenko or Marion Bartoli.

Hou Yifan is very cute, but jailbait. Shirov's wife, Viktorija Čmilytė, is seriously gorgeous. Kateryna Lajno is also pretty nice. The Kosintseva sisters too. Kosteniuk is alright.
