" . . . you'd have to be like a grand chess master, and we don't have any of them."
I recall him saying there are no grandmasters from the United States.
Just another lie he makes up on the spot.
I managed to find one article saying that Donald's son Barron loves to play chess, but the article didn't mention anything chess related about hs father.
Anyone have any links discussing chess facts about Donald or Barron, or links to chess comments made by Donald?
As an example of how the US "doesn't win anymore" Trump talked about chess. Of course this was just after we won gold in the Olympiad for the first time in many years.
Anyway, if you want, you can always use google...

"Donald Trump is the first president to be a fan of chess!"
No. And even if he is a fan, he's certainly not the first.
"this is a fun fact..."
No, it is neither.
So he knows nothing about chess, but the title of the topic is he's a chess fan?

It depends on your defenition of a chess fan. he likes the game itself.
There are many positive attributes associated with chess like intelligence, patience, thoughtfulness, and cleverness. If the definition of fan is loose enough, most people who don't even know how to play are fans simply because of what chess is commonly associated with.
More interesting would be something like a photo of Trump playing on a tournament board (hopefully with the board set up correctly unlike Richard Branson )

Speaking of definitions, what is your definition of 'first'?
Trump had to delete his account for the campaign, but it seems like he wasn't that bad, with 2000+ in speed categories and 1800+ peak in Daily before timing out.
