Einstein called chess a waste of time, what do you think?

If I had 10 suits, all the same, I would not waste any time deciding which one to wear.  If I had 10 suits all different, I still wouldn't waste any time deciding which one to wear.

That's plain dumb. Does it need to be discussed?

No, because the claim was just made up by @choirbrown.

Some say Einstein created the checkered board as we know it today.

Exponents! The number 512! These are words you're bound to hear repeatedly whenever your local historians gather at your place for the year's Christmas party and happen to spot a nice little chess board set beneath a dazzling portrait of Einstein.

And if you listen a little more attentively, you'll also learn that there is an increasing amount of people out there who believe that Einstein created the chess board as a means to visualize a set of equations he had been working on at the time.

...

However, Einstein would eventually grow tired of the plain old matrix, whether it had served his curiosities or not, and would later go on to create the first ever chess pieces known to mankind. These pieces, of course - as we know them to be today - were meant to be operated on the square board. And this is where the story of chess begins:

To this day, a large faction of historians dedicated to this subject remain split on what chess actually meant to Einstein. Some scholars speculate that he simply created the pieces, and thus the game, simply to make some further use of the sixty-four squared invention. And other perhaps more hopeful scholars pose that Einstein might have been trying to solve some sort of secret. Some with a sense of humor go even as far as to say that having already counted just how many squares were actually in the board, Einstein grew bored and made a game of the darn thing.

Whatever truly transpired in those times, it is said that some years after that, and after much obsession with the game, Einstein realised that he couldn't quite solve it in his capacity. This was quite the dilemma. For a man such as Einstein it was out of the question - absurd! He grew maddened, resorted to all sorts of statements - he discarded the game altogether! And that would be last historical clue linking Einstein to the game of chess for quite some time to come.

That is until something amazing would come along and unearth one of history's greatest discovery yet:

Centuries later, while digging for a legendary nugget of hashish rumoured to have been preserved in Amber some million years ago in India, an archeologist discovered a strange-looking checkered board with 32 pieces beside it. fascinating enough, it was still intact, and...

Einstein "quotes" are a waste of time. Einstein was a fabricated celebrity. Didn't invent or contribute anything to the good of men.

He developed the general theory of relativity, which allowed for GPS technology to be created. So if you use digital maps, remember he helped pave the way.

You are ignorant which is ok, but you are ignorant.  Understanding of the fundamental truths of the universe is something that would only go unappreciated by the ignorant.

Oh, I knew there was a FANBOY in here!!!!

I was once a FANBOY too. It's ok! We've all been duped. I know it's hard to let go, but, it's possible. Many have done it - you can too!

Einstein got a deserved Nobel prize for work which was part of what motivated quantum mechanics.

He also perhaps should have got another for replacing flat Galilean space with curved Riemannian space-time, which most view as his main contribution to physics.

@Tepeyac probably found out there were actually other physicists out there who contributed to science. This was after he'd argued with his friends and everyone else that Einstein was one of only five physicists worthy of mention. Naturally, he was embarrassed, couldn't look himself in the mirror, still can't.

In his defense, it's actually quite easy to forget that not too long ago we thought the earth was flat (some still do), we thought gravity was a mystery... it's quite easy to forget the fundamental contributions and instead fanboy over the modern day scientific celebrity.

It's called the Law of WSama: when a certain concept or discovery has been so well embedded into society and its cultures that people begin to believe that the idea was inherent to them in the first place, thus the underappreciated origin.

It's when the idea of anything else appears so ludicrous we begin to think: "Hey, I don't know - I'm pretty sure I would have figured out the world isn't flat myself, you know."

they say s/o once said that if u keep telling a big enuf lie (inadvertent ?) then simpletons will eventually come to believe it. so consider.

that said i'll help say it 4u Teppy happy.png . so much a Einsteins work is collecting cobwebs in the jury room !
