FIDE Online Arena = Scam

Sort:
Warbringer33

This is a total information grabbing scam. I registered a username earlier today (much earlier today), entered in all of my personal information, attached a photo of my Driver's License for a FIDE ID#, and entered in all of my payment information. Each time I do this and try to pay, it just cycles me back to the main FIDE Online Arena page. No payment confirmation, no additional instructions, no upgrade, no nothing.

I have emailed both email contacts available on the website multiple times about this and heard absolutely nothing back all day. Obviously this isn't a legitimate service or they would respond to their emails and you would actually be allowed to sign up for a new account.

So, there it is: Warning - Do not enter in personal information to this site or attempt to sign up for a new account. You can't sign up for a new account, nobody will respond to any emails you send, and you'll have just sent all of your personal information over to someone on the internet for absolutely nothing.

EscherehcsE

Was any of this transfer of personal/financial information made over a secure https connection? The initial Join screen is regular http, but that was as far as I could get without actually entering some sensitive info. Also, their app requires Java, which gives me the willies.

Edit - Apparently, payment info is sent via ssl. However, the login/password isn't. The big question is whether their ssl implementation is worth a darn.

Warbringer33

When you enter in your personal information, driver's license ID #, etc and go through all of that you are then routed to paypal to either a) pay with your paypal account or b) go to another option and pay directly with your debit/credit card. Both options lead to the same thing: You enter in everything, press pay, it goes to "processing" with the spinning wheel, and then you're just hopped back to the main FIDE Online Arena page, logged into your account with no upgrade, no no confirmation. I mean it's literally like you never paid.

It's well over 12 hours since I first contacted their emails and still no response. As said, this is either an information grabbing scam at this point or the site is simply going under.

Warbringer33

I went through just about everything I'm going to go through with it. At least this thread may dissuade someone else from wasting their time and privacy on FIDE Online Arena.

In the end, I just went ahead and renewed the monthly Diamond here.

Are you an idiot?

Considering that www.arena.myfide.net appears on an actual FIDE page it's highly unlikly its a "scam".

http://www.fide.com/component/content/article/1-fide-news/7318-fide-online-arena.html

There are a lot of reasons why your "payment" could not/did not process.

1) It's not configured correctly on their end.
2) It's not configured correctly on your end.

With the large amount of users who have ad block and no script set to "maximum" and having no idea what any of that stuff does, it's very possible your payment did not even attempt to enter the system.

Did you look at your bank statements? Were there charge attempts? I bet you didnt even look. I bet you will find that there were no attempts to even charge the card.

They didnt answer your emails "all day"?

Oh, my, god. They did not respond to an email within a few hours. SCAM.

Really, dude?

Did you try calling them?... during normal business hours? Have you considered the fact that they may take 48 hours to answer an email?

I'm really tired of these kinda threads.

Not sure if you're a troll Warbringer, but I cant believe you're this retarded that you'd immediately jump to a "scam" conclusion based on what you've said here.

Obviously YOU'RE the one who's trolling. Until you know the answers to questions you've asked me, it's kind of ridiculous to assert that I'm an "idiot".

They (voluntarily) have no phone number posted anywhere. I've looked extensively. There are two emails to contact them at and I've done so on both. If you honestly can't realize that in today's day and age, when you're collecting payment and personal information from people, you can't take 48+ hours to respond to normal business then I don't know what to tell you. Obviously you've never ran a business or been in any position of authority in this country.

I have checked my credit card. Why you would just assume (like a complete moron) that I haven't, is beyond me and everyone else reading the thread. There were no charges, no attempts to charge, and this is the very problem you complete stooge. My internet browser settings have nothing to do with making a simple transaction when I can do so on any other site on the web with ease. There's clearly something wrong with FIDE Online Arena's website and when they are just totally absent during weekdays obviously the website and the chess service they provide are not very well run.

Next time you decide to just rant and rave about something that has absolutely nothing to do with you - Consider that you have a low IQ first and realize that you're probably better off just keeping quiet.

edit: Just checked your profile. You're one of the worst players on Chess.com. Not a shocker.

Senior-Lazarus_Long

I don't buy too much stuff online. I still don't trust them. When I do,I purchase a visa gift card and use that. If someone gets the account info no harm done, and your bank account is safe.

There are a lot of businesses that dont answer emails in the same day.

The fact that there's no phone number there does not mean it's a "scam". If you look at the structure of the company it's pretty clear why they dont have a phone number and that email is probably the best way to get in contact with them.

This does not mean emails are answered in a matter of hours, and a "scammer" can easily have a phone number listed, so the lack of a phone number is not any good evidence.

You have checked your CC statements and there are no charges. If it was a scam, I can almost assure you they would have no charges also. But, we do know that there were no attempts to charge the card, which could also mean the payment was not processed, even legitimately.

Your internet browser settings matter. If you blacklist or disable one of any number of different things without knowing exactly what it does you can run into problems with even the simplest things like trying to order a pizza.

Insulting my rating? HAHA

If my rating was higher, how would that change anything?

I have absolutely no idea what you're trying to accomplish here. You don't work for FIDE Online Arena and you're not actually offering any assistance other than to argue about ...nothing.

You wrote earlier: "I'm tired of these kind of threads!" - Then don't respond to them you complete moron. What makes you think that anyone, anywhere needs your contributions? Just go be one of the worst players on chess.com and mind your own business. This has nothing to do with you.

What you have written, combined with your chess ratings, proves undeniably that you're an idiot. You have a low IQ. You're unintelligent. You're basically just abusing the internet by using it as an open forum as nobody would voluntarily ever discuss anything with you otherwise. Really, just go hang yourself or something productive like that.

1) You post a thread on these forums and saying "it has nothing to do with you" is like those people who post threads saying "dont comment on this thread". That's stupid.

2) I'm tired of these threads because people keep posting them without waiting a reasonable amount of time for correspondance before jumping to silly accusations of scams.

3) I do not work for chess.com but responded to the same way when someone posted a thread about chess.com being a scam. So, you only want people who work for FIDE to post a response?

Look. You're gonna feel really silly when they eventually respond to the email within the next 24-48 hours.

Calling a business a "scam" when there is no clear evidence could hurt their business. If people like you were sued over posting these types of unfounded, acusatory threads, often, people would be more careful over their words.

This is actual "defamation" because there is, in all likelyness, a false accusation of a crime.

If you're a victim of an actual "scam", ill eat my words. Unfortunately, all you're going to have to cling to is insulting me about my rating once they respond to your email in the next 24-48 hours.

PS: a 1000 Blitz rating is not even close to being "the worst player" on chess.com

Warbringer33

Still have ABSOLUTELY no idea what you're trying to accomplish here. All you did was waste about an hour of your time.

I would explain to you how taking payment information and then not responding with ANYTHING - not a confirmation screen, not an email, nothing - is just absolutely unheard of...but you clearly have something wrong with you so I would just be wasting my time.

It's unheard of for a site to just throw you back to their main page after you provide them with your driver's license, social security number, payment information, address, etc and just expect you to "hang tight" for up to 48+ hours while they may or may not charge your card and activate your service. If you can't understand that, this is going to be a tough life for you. I suspect it already is. Let's be honest - Chess didn't work out for you. Look at your profile - a 1000 blitz rating and NO standard games played. Basically, you're a total terribad and there's no reason whatsoever for you to even be playing chess. Or posting on forums. Or breathing. You're living for no reason.

Just wait 48 hours for their email. If it will help you pass the time, you may continue to insult me.

In 48 hours you'll want to delete this thread because you'll know in your mind that it wasnt a scam at all and that your rant amounted to nothing more than posting a malicious Yelp review because your food didnt come fast enough to the table.

Warbringer33

?? By not responding to anything I've said and simply repeating "wait 48 hours" you have proven that you have point blank NO reading comprehension and you're just trolling to waste your own time because you have nothing better to do. Nothing. Nobody wants to spend time with you.

Go away, dude. You're really a total waste of life and yes - A ~1000 blitz rating and zero standard games played means you're a total tard.

What you seem to not understand about reviews is that if my food doesn't come fast enough to the table, I have every right to go on Yelp and write about it. What do you think the purpose of sites like Yelp are? For morons like you to come on and tell people to wait 48 hours for their cheeseburger? You're obviously some complete loser who got fired because someone made a complaint about their incompetence in the workforce.

I can assure you that not one soul cares about it. Once again you fail to understand that people are more than free to write their opinions. Why you're living in America is beyond me. Try Afghanistan or Iran.

Have a nice night, idiot.

Warbringer, for the fuck's sake, STOP INCLUDING SOMEONE'S RATING into your posts because it has NOTHING to do with it. Would you say you or me have higher IQ than Bill Gates because he's the worst patzer Carlsen ever played? NO! STOP! IT!

If he was short, I'd call him short. If he was fat, I'd call him fat. He's low rated so I call him low rated. See how that works? I didn't actually think that only those with a rating of say 2200+ are qualified to have an opinion on anything.

Also a bit baffled as to what your post was trying to accomplish but I'll go ahead and remove you off of my friend's list until you hit puberty. We'll try it again then.

@ you 2 arguing thats the funniest thing ever.

I don't know your true chess rankings. However, I would say your insults and retorts are at least above average lol. I laughed several times lol.

Here are some very Note worthy Highlights.

On a very interesting note related to the thread. I didn't realize they wanted all that information from a person. I guess I will not go there lol. Not going to give info over the internet. I don't care who they are lol. If I can't pay with a subway gift card or disposable visa gift card they are screwed because I will not buy from them.

Warbringer33

@ Player: That's the thing, man - Just to sign up in the first place requires going out on a limb. To provide all of that information and then actually go through the payment process and be met with blank air is just ...unbelievable.

I tried for literally half the day today. Multiple signup attempts, three different browsers, two different credit cards, multiple emails. Nada. Not a response from the website or someone at the emails lol.

As said...it's just a courtesy cautionary note to others out there who have or are considering signing up. It's just a waste of time in the end.

Well you went above and beyond for sure. I would of left way before the payment process started.

Obviously they have a crew of idiots there. If they believe a person should just willingly give out all there personal information with out a response just to push around a wood piece.
