FIDE World Chess Championship Singapore 2024: Official Discussion Thread

Ding is probably better in both openings and endgames, but Gukesh' blunder rate is better, and he handles novelties with more precision. I'd weigh those as the more important factors, and Gukesh has as calm a personality as there is. Gukesh is not much weaker in openings and endgame. Ding really needs to regain most of his best form to compete here.

Possible result: infinite tie: 7-7 in classical, 2-2 in rapid, 1-1 in both 3+5 tiebreakers, and remaining 3+2 games draw.

*Actually 1-1 in both 5+3 tiebreakers.

I believe the best tie breaker is to keep playing the same time control until one player reaches a 2 point lead. That forces both to have equal opportunity with both colors.

Time only will tell how significant this match is. If Gukesh becomes as strong as I think, it will become a keynote in a career that will have him in the new desire to advocate for a new GOAT, which actually happens in every generation (it is the term that is new). If Ding wins, it will show that depression is not completely crippling.
I think Liren this time. A kid fighting a grown man.
