flagging 2OP

I tend to look at the position and not the clock in online chess....so I "lose" in "won" positions often. On the other hand one of my favorite things is pre-moving right at the end with like 10 seconds or less left and winning against somebody just trying to flag me with only a second or 2 left, so have a dozen of one 6 of the other....

I can't think of anything wrong with it. It's part of the rules, it's fair game. Just because it annoys someone doesn't make it unethical.

EnCroissantCheckmate

I think it is fine, as long as you are not CLEARLY losing

If you are clearly losing, then you should not be able to win on time, as your opponent clearly should be able to finish you off.

@UKRampage once flagged their opponent who was up 17 points and had Mate in 4. It ended up as a draw because @UKRampage only had a king left.

@UKRampage got so upset that it wasn't a win that a forum topic was created: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/this-is-why-chess-com-is-a-joke

Geez flagging can make so much of a difference in games.

The_economist9

Is it possible to flag your opponent in real life?

The_economist9

Hahahahaha lol, once you obtain that skill you can use it anywhere. But also isn't real life games longer? Like you play for hours.

it depends on which format u play on, and usually OTB blitz has increment so it would be hard to flag someone OTB

gmngana29

Flagging someone OTB is quite hard, since there is no premoving and probably you end knocking down a lot of pieces when you make your move

NobleElevator

Otb is generally longer, but otb blitz exists too, and it’s really fun. Hikaru is a legend at online flagging, and he’s a legend at otb flagging, soool yeah

B1ZMARK2

flagging will and always will be a part of bullet. if you don't wanna get flagged, don't play bullet. I've been on both sides and it sucks when you're the side being flagged but unfortunately that's how it is

DreamscapeHorizons

If u think about it, many sports have a very respectable strategy of running out the clock. It's a vital part of many, many games.

... respectable flagging strategy? hopefully not an oxymoron but not something you can see in my games lol

Mathperson2015

IMO flagging is just a part of the game, especially in bullet or blitz.

AunTheKnight
It is part of the game. It is infuriating when I get flagged though.
