At least we have a few jobs in Ireland, over in greece the prime minister collects used measuring tapes from bazzers business and sells them to make money for the national budget.

my company also employs more people than your entire country, so jog on back to your cardboard box

From a bit of research on your profile I believe your FIDE rating is 2363 or there abouts. And, I must retract my comment about getting a real title. Although you are a jackass. However, I would like to address the original point of this forum. Although I don't believe anyone has come close to solving Chess as it were, it will happen at some stage. I believe this because chess has a finite number of moves and although this is indeed a huge number, computers these days, or in days to come for that matter, will eventually get through all of them. Oh and Pfren I was wondering what you do as a profession?

If there is a forced win, you will see a ton of books about it.

I don't think we are going to devise a computer algorithm for getting guaranteed wins/draws any time soon, even with all of today's computers and whatnot.  But, even if it happens, us humans will not be able to actually replicate it in person at the chess board, so we will still be able to have fun playing the game with each other.

Spelling bees are still competitive, even though there are computers out there that contain all the correct spellings.

I just realised that this thread stopped being about chess computers about two pages ago.

    Fair point though.
