What is going on with certain users (bots perhaps) spamming the General Discussion Forums with threats that are titled like "

[removed, since it included spammer phone # -- MOD]

And the users are those with only recently created accounts. What is going on..?

I suspect it's a bot, but no idea what the motive is for this. For instance, I go to the General Discussion place, and I see 10 of these:

Bots spam forums to affect search results in Google. If Google "sees" that a certain website (and its relevant tags/contact info) is linked or mentioned by other websites the result gets pushed higher.

The spammers don't necessarily care about any of us seeing their message.

I'm just going to begin commenting on them. Fight fire with fire.

Nevermind, it reacted negatively. They're out of control now.

It's certainly a bot. I have no idea why chess.com doesn't follow my suggestion to have a captcha test for all members.

GM_Viswanathan2997

The phone number marriage, black magic, etc spam is most likely not bot driven and are manual spammers.

The site auto-closes a number of those but some slip through and are manually caught.

And why does chess.com care about protecting spammers?

Well, actually, it was more the fact that search engines grab text more readily but to satisfy you, I'll remove those images too.
