how much time do you have to spend on chess on a daily/weekly basis?

how would you recommend somebody to improve/study online if they don't have chess books?

I would recommend going through games of great players like Tal or Kasparov (there's many more!)

2-3 hours, let's say.

wow! that's a lot. Here's something you could try out:

Do 3 "focused sessions" of work each day. If you only have 2 hours, make each session like 40 min. If you have 3 hours, make them slightly longer (50-60 min sessions)

Sessions (rotate through these):

1. Tactics
2. Analyze your own games
3. Openings
4. Read a book

Lol. Does that help low rated players like me? Or is it too much?

Also, does that work with 20 min sessions?

Ok thanks

it will help more for advanced players. If you consider yourself a beginner/intermediate player, you should focus more on playing some more games and analyzing them

sure thing! Just remember: you have to always change your training plan! Figure out what works, and keep that. Change everything to figure out what works best for ryou

I would prefer for you to do 1 40 min session rather than 2 20 min sessions

Ok. Also, how many games (rapid and blitz) should I play a day? Ideally...

What would be a suitable substitute for otb playing?

Avatar of chamo2074

Are there any chessbooks that don't recquire to have a chess board nearby you to read them?

dedicate some time to playing/reviewing games. Let's say you dedicate 1 hour for that. Then play for 30, analyze/review the games for 30

technically you don't need a chess set to read most boards, but typically it's best to use one. So... not that I know of

Ok.

@chamo2074 Chessable was the epiphany for me on that one
