Btw, you may also switch to a Rubik's cube as well

I think it is a joke concerning his profile picture, but if it is serious, no it's not a good idea, Rubik's cube is as difficult mentaly as chess, if not worse, because sometimes you are slow and have no idea why whereas in chess you can analyse what you did wrong

solving a rubixs cube is mostly just pattern recognition and muscle memory assuming you know how to solve one. Learning to solve one by yourself is a mental challenge that nobody would be able to solve in a reasonable amount of time(the inventor himself took a month to figure out how.

I can solve a Rubik’s cube, it’s much much easier than chess

2048 game is also cool

I’ve dropped 200 points before, it’s part of the process bro

You are always so hard on yourself. Your in like the 95% percentile of all chess.com. I would be very proud of myself if I wear you.

You can't be too harsh on yourself. Rating naturally fluctuates a lot and you mentioned recently being over 2000, so it's probably just a natural up and down as part of the learning process.

As for tilt specifically, I do have a playlist on that for anyone interested in how to deal with tilt:

I once dropped over 400 points in a week. You will earn it back.

As a person in the top 10% of people who have went to official Rubik’s cube competitions, I disagree. You can check your splits for each stage of the solve and see which step of the solve you are doing too slow. Then I just learn more advanced solutions in those steps and try to focus and get faster on the step I’m slow at.
I went from 18 -> 12 seconds barely learning algorithms, and the fastest speedcuber hasn’t learned that many techniques that I don’t know and he averages FOUR SECONDS.
this isn’t related to chess but I thought I’d let you know

Yeah I know all of that I have actually also been speedcubing not a long time ago, though I wasn't an active member of the community. My PB was 16, and average of 19, but my point is that, as you said, the best cubers globaly use the same techniques as I do (PLL, OLL etc.). That's why I find it sometimes demotivating, saying them solve in less than 5 seconds. That's also why I decided to stop it, I didn't feel I could have gotten any faster than I was, except maybe learning even more advanced techniques but it just felt like it wasn't worth the time. We're kind of overfeeding this thread with this, but I'm happy to have found another cuber and I'd be glad to continue this discussion in this forum if chanman is ok for it

I couldn't see my splits though I was kind of a cheap cuber (just a classic GAN, don't remember the model, and like the thing to time it I don't know what it is called)

er ... what's 40 points?

if you're scared of losing them you may not improve.

I dropped over 400 in a day when they didn't tell me that, all of a sudden, 10 mins wasn't blitz any more but rapid. I never even tried to get it back because it was proof that it doesn't matter AT ALL. I was really off form and hadn't played rapid for months. I was concentrating on blitz so I could easily get a rapid rating of 2200. It isn't worth bothering about.

Oh you are so right! I lost 200 points in two days. I was THIS close to hitting 700 (I think 697) and was shaking in anticipation and then lost like seven games in a row because I fell into that trap like a gambler on a losing streak.

I finally threw up my hands and decided not to care and just play for fun. I'm still not close to hitting 700 but I'm FAR HAPPIER and I know that, when I'm good enough, it'll happen. In meantime, I haven't earned it so I just study more.

The fastest solvers have memorized some ZBLL now, they definitely know more techniques.
