Thanks for letting me know about Waitskin! I'll have to look him up sometimes. Plus, I whole-hertedly agree. Openings are for >1700 and Variations should be memorized by masters. On this level though if you are tactical and have understanding of principals the opening won't affect your game that much because of the sharp edge you'll have over players. I wasn't saying that getting 300 points is a rare thing, it's actually incredibly common with this system, that's why I'm sharing it. Standard should be played instead of blitz until about 1600 imo.
From 1200 to 1500 in under a month

Well, as you have played only 23 games with your (not the one you deleted) account and as you have scored 82,6% in them (14w/6d/3l), it's quite possible that your rating is still not established.
There's nothing strange though, as after you start playing the site assigns you a starting rating that comes out of nowhere, and until you have played enough games it will inevitably change according to your "real" playing strength. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with study plans.
TL;DR: if you make another account its rating will also do the same.

Glex, I was 1500 on my other account as well. I accidently deleted it trying to cancel my membership(I know stupid, right?) Lmao. Yeah I understand where you're coming from though, hopefully I can get it up a bit higher before it settles.

It's quite possible. But i guess you've studied chess for longer than 1 month, and the 1-month increase in rating doesn't mean you've improved your playing strength with this amount over this month. It means you have played as strong as chess.com's equivalent of ~1500 rating, but your initial rating had not been 1200 or so as your assigned one probably was.
For example, chess federations tend to require a number of games to have been played before assigning a rating to a player. If on chess.com that number were 23 and not 1, you'd come up with ~1500 initial rating, and your rating change would have begun from now on.

iMPOSSIBLE.
That is, unless, you were to use an engine - then, yes. But other than that 300 points in a month can't be done...

Glex, I see your point, but it isn't very relevant. Not only do I know because my record is improving that the plan is working, I can tell when I'm playing. I'm better in real life and online because I now have the ability to formulate a plan and spot bad moves (creating them into tactical oppurtunities.) The purpose was to share a solid way to improve to an intermediatte player, not to discuss and speculate my rating. It's actually grandmaster advice I have collected and mixed in with my own games and expieriences as a low rated player.

The advices you give are very good. They have nothing to do with the changes of your rating (which, obviously, is the topic) though. However, if you'd meant that you've reached ~1500 rating following them but not over the last month, you'd have probably been right.

If Vishy Anand starts playing live on his chess.com account, his rating would do even better.
I don't think so. Or do you really think he'd start at 1200?!

I believe he would, as I don't find it likely that someone assign him another starting rating. Why should he need a higher (or lower) than 1200 starting rating after all? Especially when he doen't play.
By the way, if someone does give Anand a higher rating to begin with, it would be an even more stunning rating jump - one without playing or following study plans at all.

Well, he wouldn't.
Besides, that's just besides the point. Assuming that someone that is settled at 1200 would achieve 1500 in a months time is just plain and simple unfeasible.

How could he be "settled" provided he's creating a new account with no rating?
Save for that word I fully agree with you. Assuming that someone that is settled at 1200 would achieve 1500 in a months time is just plain and simple unfeasible.

This is all irrelevant.... lmao ratings are just an estimate, I used them to give people an idea, not have them derive their whole expierience improving in chess off of it. Notice that this is just a general guide for players with a general rating to improve at CHESS, not their rating.

Some 1800s got their rank by playing 1500s they aren't actually that good. ratings online are all one big very faulty estimate and I used them to give an ESTIMATE to the various people that would view this post. I even included in the guide not to worry about rating, just play and you will get better
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I would try my best to devote one hour a day to tactics if possible, but it's not a requirement. They will help a huge deal. It should take at least a minute or two for most tactics to get the full benefit of calculating every option. I usually play around 5 live standard 15/10 games on the weekends, but only if I have time. I suggest trying to fit in one standard game in everyday if you can. The Endgame is something that you don't have to do everyday, you can spread out this study to fit your schedule. I reccomend doing the computer workouts on chess.com, but don't try to do 10 in one day. Start with 2-3 semi-challenging ones and make sure you understand them almost completely. It's super easy to make mistakes the endgame, so if you practice the endgame and take your time with it during games you will have a huge edge. Please let me know how it goes :) Tactics, tactics, tactics
