It occurs to me this morning that athletes cross train, so why shouldnt chess players?

In the physical camps this is important work that relieves boredom and prevents repetitive stress,  mental burnout, or injury. For instance if you box, you can also weight lift. If you play soccer, you may also be interested in hockey, to spot the differences in ball vs puck handling, or defensive position strategies. All these activities have some kind of related but different counterpart rules, which specifically focuses on a common aspect between the two activities, but which complements other aspects of the game or sport. They may have similar game fields, or different rules, like lacrosse vs basketball.

So there simply has to be a set of cross train games for chess. I do not see this anywher, and refuse to believe one needs to grind out 10000 games and tactics, or other chess activity, to get better. I know there is some Go crossover in our community.

What are some games that would be good for chess cross training?

I can think of Go, checkers, and mancala. Maybe even connect four, and tetris? Simon? Anything to build memory, visuospatial, positional vision, calculation, and pattern recognition. How about it, community?  How would some other games build your chess chops?
