Stronger players should bring out the best in me but until I actually start taking the game seriously I'm going to make the same mistakes regardless of my opponents rating. The answer for me is "potentially, yes".
getting better

Quite the opposite; playing against much stronger players crushed not only my mind, but my body as well. The overwhelming rage I experienced at losing so profoundly led me to provoke a series of physical altercations I regretted the moment they began.

I have heard some good advice from Dan Heisman:
Play as much against better players but don't forget you have to play against lower rated players as well so you can perfect your technique (ie. if you have a winning position against a lower rated player, you need technique to finish him/her off).
For me I play against higher rated persons at my chess club, but it can be very demotivational. Lost every game the first year on the chess club (:

Playing against better players improve my openings and middlegame. My endgame fails to improve as I never reach a playable endgame. Either mated while middlegame or reach a hopeless endgame.

I agree with BlargDragon. I've recently played against 1600 and 1600+ players and I've been beaten either very quickly. Every move I made seemed like a mistake afterward. I still enjoy the process and I am sure there is something I learn. But I feel like if I play stronger players they may feel they're wasting time and may judge me as a person. It feels very bad sometimes. This shouldn't be an issue when you play online and don't have a real person in front of you.
On on the other hand when I played some players who were writhin 100pt range of my own skill I feel like I am actually playing with a chance to win. I can recognize my and the opponents mistakes more easily. I don't feel bad losing as well and I what to play more.

i been playing stronger players lost alot of games. it made me start focusing more and protecting my pieces

If one wants to increase his tactical alertness, not fall victim to a simple combination, sparring with the chess terminators will definitely help. Some of our mistakes against humans are unpunished and unnoticed.

Sometimes thinking less is much better. When your opponent plays his move, take a good look at that move. What changed with this move? Is there a check or capture now? And play simple chess. Don't think too much about combinations. Wich is the drawback of doing a lot of tactics. Start with not missing hanging pieces anymore.
how many feel they getting better playing stronger players?
