Hikaru had the 4th game won but it didn't work out for him.  Could have tied it and sent it to "overtime."

Apparently he didn't have the 4th game won since he didn't win it!

Is anyone surprised anymore? I support Hikaru even more than the next guy, but it's common knowledge that Carlsen is his "problem opponent".

hehe it would have been more fun if its on chess.com lol not gonna lie

donnelleraeburn

Hikaru did well, he would remember this game and possibly challenge him again. Who knows, Hikaru invitation xd

GM_chess_player

Wow. Well Hikaru wasn't disappointed on stream, all he said is that we both played badly.

But still 45 K bucks is some money! happy.png

yes

hi spartan yoda

Debistro

Hikaru had to shift gears in his mind, going from dead draw to winning, and that is where he failed. Missing the simple h4 to prevent Carlsen from expanding on the kingside, which is a standard move that every decent chess player knows. That was a basic error that cost him the win in Game 4.

Otherwise, he played well.

big oof for hikaru

Psylaris

It's the Magnus Carlsen Invitational. Of course Magnus won.

So he could have taken ANYBODY he wants?

Correct. Carlsen chose Fabiano Caruana, Ding Liren, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Anish Giri, Hikaru Nakamura and Alireza Firouzja.

Not a bad list of competitors. It’s not like it was a joke. He earned it against this grouping.

imagine getting invited in an invintational

Magnus Carlsen lost the Magnus Carlsen Tournament in which we all expected Magnus Carlsen to win
