Choose? nothing to choose. Anyone above beginner level would take the queen. After which black is a piece up. No chance whatsoever. A piece down without huge compensation in return is just a lost position. Not even a shadow of a chance to hold it.

 

It would have been considered ridiculous had he not resigned.

I agree with grolich, you have a chance to win a queen or a rook against a GM and you have to choose yeah right Anyway it would have been a huge slap in the face to the player of the black pieces if he didn't resign.
