I played a couple games with her and we chatted a bit while playing. I don't have any special insight into the final event, but from what she said previously, this wasn't the first sketchy message she received here.
This kind of behavior creates an uncomfortable environment for women. What is depresses me more is reading many of the response on this thread from people who want to blame or psycho-analyze her when someone else was the jerk.
If you ever wonder why there aren't more women in chess or on this site, just reread this thread.

I think if it was me... I'd make whatever he sent public and show the eejit up for what he is. Maybe someone should open up a 'name and shame' forum... kinda like an old fashioned public stocks. (And if there are any morons watching... I have my privacy settings on).

Her father probably made her close it after what he saw. She probably opened the message not suspecting something titled " birthday present" would be something that vulgar.

It's really a shame this happens to girls on chess.com. Women are really rare here, at least I think so. But they give some sort of fresh ideas to the discussion. Remember Anna. She was perfect too, but she left for other reasons. We can only hope Laura let us know if she come back.
