Lasker (immediately recognizable) and Vidmar (needed some searching for that Budapest).

This is an iconic photo: Little Sammy Reshevsky in his sailor suit on tour, giving another simultaneous exhibition. Sammy was seemingly born with the capacity to play strong chess and was master strength from early on. This photo is from 1920. In 1922 he defeated Janowski ( a very strong player though past his prime) in a tournament. Sammy was 10 years old by the conventional account, though some believe that his parents subtracted 2 years from his age to make his simultaneous exhibitions more attractive, and his small stature abetted this subterfuge. Reshevsky always denied this.

Haha that ones hilarious!

This gentleman was a a strong player, though probably not a grandmaster (USCF rating peak, 2436). Although he died from pneumonia at the young age of 45, he's better known as a teacher than a player (though he was both).  His best known student became the U.S. Women's Champion twice.

My first thought was DiCamillo.

batgirl

Always go with your first thought.  Di Cam it is.

Used to be a top 10 player when younger...

Can you enlighten us on this one?

AndyClifton

I know whoever it is I'm gonna go "Oh yeah!" (definitely looks familiar)...

AndyClifton

Okay, I'll say it's Polugaevsky.

Hey, Jutta was cute as heck btw.  Unfortunately, she peaked at the age of 9.

Okay, I'm gonna keep on restoring this one, Mod Squad...hey, I got time...

Sorry. Off-topic. Mod.

I can give a hint, that's for sure.  An engineer, he was sometimes referred to a the "chest master" for a particular reason.

That would be Edward Lasker but I sure didn't recognize him in that photo.
