Hard Work Alone Can Never Make You a Master

I didn't mean hardwork alone. What I meant was right kind of hardwork that includes everything time management/money management etc... To manage multiple things you need to be smart. Acting right on right time makes lot of difference.

let us discuss few things about rating here. How many of us know (Without taking google help ;) ) what are the rules and criteria to have FIDE rating. Let us assume you are new to chess and having no rating. You are attending FIDE rated tournament.

To have FIDE rating what must be done ?

How many games you need to play against players ?

Can you get rating winning against unrated playes ?

If you do manage to beat any FIDE rated player then how many FIDE rated players you need to beat ?

There are only so many different ways you can say that anyone who spends a large amount of time studying chess without making master is an idiot.

And yet, the vast majority of serious tournament players never break 2000, let alone 2200. Just call them all idiots and be done with it. Of course, you will be calling MBAs, lawyers, Ph.D's, engineers, doctors, and many others idiots in the process.

Prove that they are idiots. Become a master yourself.

Elroch

Well, while I personally think time could often be spent better, are they more idiotic than someone who spends the same time fishing or watching tv? Or doing crosswords?

Is it stupid for people just to do something because they enjoy it?

TheGreatOogieBoogie

Does anyone else find humor in how seriously people are taking a game?  You even sometimes have titled guys getting into virtual fistfights over some silly variation!

It's funny imagining these Soviet guys in lab coats inquisitively looking over a chess board with Botvinnik standing there waiting for a status report on the variation they are looking at then asks about Tal's "file" (a folder with copies of his score sheets) to help him research for a title match... all for a game.

i see the way you are more than willing to float the possibility that i am stupid.  Well it doesnt affect me one way or the other. One thing is certain you are a very unpleasant chap.  Read some of my other threads. are they the scribblings of a stupid man?

Now think about the adjournments in the old days.

This is an extract from "The Life & Games of Mikhail Tal" by Tal. He is speaking about Botvinnik - Fischer, Varna Olympiad 1962:

"Nevertheless. for me the most memorable event of the Olympiad was the resumption of the Botvinnik-Fischer game. The question of which team would take first place was already decided. but for this game chess fans gathered from literally all over Bulgaria. Everyone remembered the recent interview given by Fischer in which he had said that he could beat Botvinnik in a match. and the game therefore held exceptional prestige interest.

My game. against D. Byrne. was also adjourned. in an ending slightly favourable for me, but no-one. myself included, looked at it seriously.

Three of us. Boleslavsky, Spassky and I, set up Botvinnik's position in our room, and got down to analysing it. We were not the only ones. When, on the advice of our trainer Boleslavsky, I went off to the family room of Donald and Robert Byrne to offer a draw I saw on their table the adjourned position of the Botvinnik-Fischer game.

The analysis went on for almost the whole of the night. The three of us worked together. as did Botvinnik. Geller, Keres and Furman on the floor above. From time to time the younger players: Spassky and I, would take turns to go upstairs and exchange conclusions.

Towards five o' clock in the morning, Geller's fantastic idea - to battle with two isolated pawns against two united pawns in a rook ending - had been fully worked out. and we decided that there were considerable drawing chances. And when, for the last time, we set off downstairs to sleep Mikhail Moiseyevich said to us: "Please. if anyone asks. tell them my position is hopeless!". We overslept, and missed breakfast by a long time, but when we arrived in the restaurant we found the Americans there. They looked sleepy, but contented: they were in no doubt that Fischer's position was won.

When we all arrived at the overcrowded tournament hall, we found the following picture: Botvinnik walking calmly up and down the stage, Fischer sitting with his head in his hands, and a theoretically drawn position already on the board"

No...no...I never said or suggested that you are stupid. Your sloppy work, though, doesn't rule out such a possibility.

Even here, you call me a "chap". Can you be sure? And an "unpleasant" one...what you really mean is unpleasant to you. Yet, you express "certainty"...meaning that I am unpleasant to all (probably including my dog).

Why would I want to read more sloppy work from you?

As if he needed any more proof than this post.

HolyFlame777

Dealing with you is like banging one's head on a concrete barrier.  Much pain and 0 reward.  You are a hater. My writing is excellent and you call my work sloppy.  You are not only unpleasant but dishonest, disingenuous, and a liar as well.  Stop feeding your dog for a couple of days and watch Fido transform into the Real Thing.  Your dog knows you are an unpleasant unrewarding chap, but hey! The dog cant talk so he has to shut up and deal with you.

Define talent so everyone talks about the same.

RonaldJosephCote

gg;  he started another thread. something about better is better.

RonaldJosephCote

maybe he's just having a bad day. I'll lay off.

in_prasad

@Smyslovfan ??? What is wrong with you ? Did I call anyone idiot ? Please tell me.

@chess_gg How do you know what OP meant ?

Seems both of you have serious issue understanding other's post.

@ViktorHNielsen

Very good point. Let talent be define then everyone talk about same.

HolyFlame777

gg all is cool  but dont u ever talk bad about my mama, it shows a remarkable lack of class and low mindedness.  Dont reveal yourself too much more than u already have.  you too cote!  It doesnt help your reputation.

InfiniteFlash

False.

I am only 200 points away from the NM title, never had a coach....and I will get the title.

There are a lot of people that got the nm title cuz of just reading books intensely

RonaldJosephCote

MY reputation is NOT defined by YOUR opinion. I told you I'll leave you alone, but use these forums properly, and don't call people names. You've been here 2 months. I've been here 2 yrs, and gg's been here longer than that.  Goodbye--for NOW!

HolyFlame777

sounds like your problems go way deeper than forums cote. The words ignorant, self-righteous, jealous, nosy, trouble maker, boring, waste of time and many others come to mind when Cote is spoken of.  And Prasad  talent cannot be defin ed, it can only be experienced.  It is superior ability in any given field attained with little or no hard work.  much to the chagrin of the lesser ones.  There are though a very select few who combine great talent along with great hard work. that's where the Fischers come in, and the Capablancas. Be content to revel in their reflected light, like reading a For Rent sign under a street lamp.

listen gg im serious about the mama thing i cant tell you how worthless a person such tactics make u.  u say you "miss' my mama.  Are u implying u slept with her.  U are most certainly a drunk and a person best to be avoided. Would u say that to my face?  Would u have a little smiley face if u said that to me in person?

Simply get involve with admin for his obnoxius post. I am sure admin would not tolerate this kind of low language in any forum.

HolyFlame777

thank u prasad that guy brings down the whole level of the community, implying he had sex with other OP's mother, does he know what could happen to him in real life talking like that?
