they have 1 minute to reconnect...

This is posted on my homepage, do i need to reply to it?

I was struggling in a game, only had about 50 seconds left, but still thought i had a chance. I didn't quit, my internet connection just vanished. By the time my net started working again, obviously my time had run out. Now i have this message on my homepage!

That's just your opponent expressing displeasure. You can delete it if you want to

It was posted by your opponent, upset by you aparently abandoning the game. You can reply to him if you wish.

Internet connection issues will happen to many people at some point. But if it is not a regular occurance you have nothing to worry about.

Oh so he told me off!

Bit mardy that. I didn't even think i'd lost. I was up 2 pawns, but he had a rook and a bishop to my 2 bishops. It's not like i was miles behind early and just disconnected! I only had 50 odd seconds left, but he only had about 1:30 left, it wasn't a lost cause.

Disconnection issues are the bane of online chess games. So best to not take those games too seriously and do them for fun more than some sense that those games define you as a player. I used to have no clue what was going on. I used to wonder why the other guy was not moving until I realized he was having the same issues I was with his internet connection. I find people get a bit rude too during those live games. I actually had a guy go on and on and on with messages because I RESIGNED a game after I blundered and lost my rook. He sent me at least ten rude messages calling me a quitter and coward. I goofed because I had lost time due to my connection and when it came back on I sent a move I did not want to send and bye bye rook. I guess he wanted to crush my bones and I did not let him. I tend to keep away from those fast games for reasons anymore.

Just had someone vanish after throwing a piece away.

I don't get why it says 'game abandoned'...it's not abandoned is it, it's basically the exact same thing as resigning. It should just say you won by resignation. If it happened in a real match, surely that would be seen as resigning?

Keep in mind that its online chess, and bad connections happen.  Some people will post that you disconnected to let others know, or to vent.  As long as you know that you didnt disconnect on purpose, it doesnt matter.
