Help me to improve my blitz rating
Could you please give me some real tips? I want to improve and not to read jokes!
I reached 2000 in rapid a while ago but I struggle with blitz. I peaked at about 1900 blitz but now I'm in the 1800s. I'd like to hit 2000 blitz. Does anyone have tips? What should I improve? I play 3|0 games (I won't switch that).
Congrats, but you’ll have to look elsewhere for advice because I’m just barely over 2000 blitz rating so if I knew how to be higher, then I’d do it myself :D
It’s probably the same thing that got you to 1600 and 1800 and now 2000. You’re high enough rated that you should have an understanding of your game and what your strengths and weaknesses are. Work on that. :)
You should probably first try to find what are your weaknesses in Blitz. Is it because you are too slow in time trouble ? Is it because you tend to overcalculate ? Or on the contrary because you rely too much in intuition ? How are your positions after the opening, good are bad? Etc.
You need to identify what you can progress on to have global improvement imo

Yeah…. But how to identify them?
That is the hardest part…. Ig I'm not going to decide by my feelings but I will look at my most recent 50 losses and see why I lost
From my understanding, the blitz rating is most of the time lower than the rapid rating for players. I am not sure if you can reach 2000 in blitz with a current "Strength of a 2000-rated rapid player". It might require a bit more. I am not saying you are incapable of getting there, I am simply pointing out that you are probably not much worse as a blitz player.
One thing I can give you as a tip though is that you should get used at playing semi-optimal lines. You won’t be able to play a perfect game. Besides that, you could even intentionally make some more practical decisions.
Good practical decisions in blitz should not complicate the position too much. They shouldn’t be too risky. You can even start with that in the opening and try to play something that your opponent is less likely to know about. Just a few second or third lines, some second most played moves etc. are enough. Hikaru for example likes to bring their opponents out of theory with some slightly dubious openings. You don’t have to copy them or play exactly like him, but you can use his core idea: Don’t play too many mainlines, main theories and easy-to-handle-moves. An example: Hikaru likes to play 2. Nc3 in the sicilian with white. You could do that as well, and maybe even create a small blitz opening repertoire if you want.
Good luck on your further journey to 2000!

I agree only for the second part. While it is true that your playstyle needs to change radically in Blitz compared to rapid, I don't think it means getting to the same level as your rapid rating while originally being a rapid player is that difficult. It needs to take some time to change as you said l, but I dont think that means you are “worst” in Blitz than rapid in terms of level. The second part I really agree though
I don't play by opening theory - I just use the ideas of that opening and opening principles to play an opening. And yes, a seperate blitz repertoire may be a good idea since I'd like to play more aggressively in blitz and that won't work with the Caro and 1. Nf3….
