Yes. They met before he became chancellor sometime in the 1920's.

Who won the game?? I'm guessing it could've gone either way, given the political machinations of both infamous historical figures.

I think this is how he came up with Blitzkrieg( lightning war tactic )
Legend has it that's where the term blitz chess came from.

Why does the OP refer to him as, "a prominent figure"? He was one of the most despicable despots that ever lived. He was a drug addict and spent time in jail after WW1. His actions and his alone caused the deaths of millions of people. He failed as a soldier and as a leader he destroyed Germany. I see nothing prominent in that

this say it's him on the left but there are disagreements on the particulars.

The privious post is from 2009....... this one is from 2013. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/hitler-lenin-and-chess "prominent" means every 5 yrs someone says...."hey, didn't hitler play chess"? and the same picture comes up.
History always fascinated me. Hitla is one of the most prominent figures in history. Many wonder if he enjoyed chess. Well, here is a portrait of him playing against Lenin. Quite a masterpiece.
