How do I get over 1000 rating in daily?

Avatar of SnowyTheWolf

We've all heard the normal tips:

  1. Move slowly, it is daily so take your time.
  2. Check what your opponent is doing.
  3. Try to see if you can figure out where your opponent will go next.
  4. Always have a plan of your own...

And many other common ones. My rating is 931. Here is how it got there.

4/19/17: Opened account with 1200 rating.

Mid Summer: Went down between 1076 and 1160 played many daily games at once. (around 216)

End 2017: Started ending games and lowering my number of games to under 100. Losing much more than winning. Went under 1000 a bit.

Early 2018: Went back above 1000. Wasn't that bad.

Summer 2018: Closed my account. Lost on time a lot. Went below 900.

Recently: Expected to get over 1000 again sense I wasn't that bad. Only saw a max of 1003. Went down slowly till now.

I need real expert tips to really help...

I picked 2 wins and 2 losses from your games at random.

Two tips:

1) follow the opening principals

https://www.chess.com/article/view/the-principles-of-the-opening

2) don't drop pieces (don't move a piece to a square where there are two attackers and only 1 defender for example).

Work on your openings and controlling the center just had a look at a couple of your games and there is no structure.

I'm pretty bad at chess but I'll give you a daily game, unrated 3 days a move, if you like? Or we can do rated I don't mind. Or 2 or 1 day a move.

It is Not necessary to learn chess. I am also Not able to learn  it . Learn the tactics  of the game  . Steel your  opponent  Material or mate  hin.  Sie Tactical  Moves för it . Double  attack  fork pinning decoying Intermediate  move  interruption  and so on . You will  get  fast a  rating  About  1800

See any coming threats (e.g open files, uncastled king, many more things you will learn later)

Attack! A big mistake I'm seeing from weaker players is they really want to play so passively. Attack!

You learn these things from being taught by experts. Learn with some and you will get better.

More tactics, and use the analysis board. Study every move your opponent could respond with to find the best move for you.

Is it not cheating to use an engine on a game? I know you can use opening and the onsite move book, unless I've misunderstood?

Also regarding tactics, I've solved thousands of problems on this site, and seen little improvement. I recently reset my progress but my tactics rating peaked around 1200 and is now only 800, even after 3300 problems over a year or so. So just doing tactics does not help.

For low ratings I think chess.com's tactics trainer is not good. Better to get a book.

Some of chess.com's "tactics" aren't even tactics, it's just capture the free piece. I can see how that wouldn't help anyone.

In the game itself is an analysis board that does not include an engine. But yes, it is cheating to use an engine on a game.

Ah yes I use that all the time for calculations (not that I'm any good). I thought you meant something that analysed lines and determined the best one or consequences of each, like an engine.

Your issue appears to be the usual....Youre not taking your time.

I might reset it again. The problem is if I see something obvious after say 30 seconds, I'll go for that, only for it to be wrong. Or I get the first move right and the next wrong. And even if I spend 5 minutes on a problem, it doesn't guarantee that I'll see the answer. I might be looking for a check or mate, when the problem is a trade or a capture.

Take a look at your last tactics problem you did.

Let me pass on to you something a coach told me.

IF you're going to solve tactics online.  Give yourself 2-3 minutes to try and figure it out.  If after that time, you are unable to solve it.  Set up the position on a real board with real pieces, and give yourself as much time as you need to solve it.  If you can't solve it, its a pattern you don't know.  Look at the answer, and then thoroughly go over the tactic until you completely understand it.

I will say this again...The whole idea of tactics training is to improve the number of positions you know.  Its not to get a high online tactics rating.

Avatar of mjharris77

I'm going to reset it again and go take my time as best I can. I'm not even sure what I was thinking with that particular puzzle or what move I played.

People who keep preaching tactics have rather low ratings, it’s a bit like people normally on a diet are fat..... play the game learn and move on don’t get sucked into tactics.
Avatar of mjharris77

I reset my rating again. I'll have to really analyse those I get wrong and go slower to get them correct.

Umm, everyone says tactics are important, since 100 years ago, top trainers, top players, etc.

I have doubts that chess.com's TT is super useful, but tactics training in general is obviously useful.

Bacon gave good advice on the previous page.

If you're really dedicated, set up the positions on a board at home and move the pieces around. You can eliminate a lot of candidate moves that way.

Says the one who got to 2000 after beating average opponent of 1300 and refuses to play rated games, forgive me for not taking you serious stiggling
Avatar of mjharris77

If he refused to play rated games surely his rating couldn't increase to 2000?
