Doesn't he get political? Maybe that is why people dislike.
How Good Is Gothamchess??

You are taking risk. What if he sees this forum?? People think Gotham doesn't watch forums, but what still if he sees this??

He won’t lmao

Accusations, f- bombs, mean spirited insults account for his popularity amongst the teeny bopper set. The kids eat up the lack of any respect for opponents.

Good at what?
At playing he is almost good- so far his highest rating is about the same as mine many years ago.
As a chess streamer and YT influencer, he is total junk, which explains why he has so many followers.
That's not very nice!

lllllllllooooooooooooooooooooooool he sees the forums

Good at what? As a chess player he is better than almost all of us here writing about him. And yet he can be much stronger, in fact he is working on his chess training for GM title. As a youtuber/twitch streamer he is at the top with few others. For me his content is both educational, funny and entertaining. I learned a lot by watching his videos and he manages to make me laugh which is enough for me to keep watching. I wouldnt agree with #15, why do you think its junk?

Anyone who has reached IM level is far above most of us mortal chess players. Being a GM obviously means better, but I've seen IM's sometimes crush GM's in local tournaments too. We have one here in my state that regularly beats up on GM's but doesn't bother going to FIDE tournaments, sticks with local US tournaments to make money. He literally does not care about achieving the title which is crazy because he could if he wanted. He'll often give pity draws after he wins a tournament to avoid having to play the last round, walk out with his prize money early. So don't discount IM's as strong competitors/chess players.

As a young and promising player you should seriously reconsider the quality of your streams and videos. They might be entertaining for some, but surely enough they are not educative, partly because you are talking very fast and the watcher loses whatever has to be learnt from them, and partly because a lot of them turn around typical Hope Chess openings which will work once in a blue moon at normal time controls, and regularly more often at blitz.
I am sure that, given your chess knowledge, you can do VASTLY better than being just an entertainer. And it does not take much of an effort to achieve that.

That's not very nice!
Pfren doesn't do "nice".
His chess comments are always worth reading, though.

IM Pfren simply calls it how he sees it, if he was trying to be hurtful he’d have called you a poor man’s Eric Rosen.
"... because you are talking very fast and the watcher loses whatever has to be learnt from them, .."
If I am watching an "instructional" part, then I slow it down to 75% speed to actually catch what he is saying!

I really enjoy his content. After work, i'll watch his videos and have a beer to relax. I really enjoy his recaps and climbing the ladder series. His recap of his Vegas tournament made me feel better towards my chess anxiety seeing that even strong players have some. If you want pure educational content Naroditsky is great. Gotham chess offers something different. Anyways thats my 2 cents
