Sure, they said June, but I don't remember them saying which june it is that they're talking about...
The beginning of the hate for the new version and this time I will be one of the haters. Sorry staff!
When we have a problem, Jack1n allways chimes in and says, what browser and OP are you using. If someone was BUYING a new computer, or upgrading in the near future; What would chess.com recommend to be compatible with version 3, or stable for version 4 later ?? I can see it now. The're gonna roll out version 3, and all these free people with bad connections are gonna start 100 threads about this doesn't work, that doesn't work, yada, yada. Erik explained how version 1 was built on a limited platform. I'm not complaining; if I have to upgrade in the future, what would be the best hardware to purchase, in order to be compatible to the software?? Looking for guidance from STAFF.
Anyone who was here for the rollout of V2 knows how it will really go. Almost all the complaining will be about how people don't like elements of the design, with a smaller smattering of functional complaints. The bugs, if history is any indicator, will be many but they will get sorted in due course.
There have been some specatular failures of site redesigns. Digg, Flickr, and Slashdot all had major overhauls and saw drops in their number of users and vocal backlash. From the screen shots I've seen of V3 this has potential to be a disaster. Icons instead of easy to read menus, an annoying hover bar, and more javascript to slow down your system. Not to mention the features they will be dropping presumably to save on server load. I understand that the backend must be aging and needs to be replaced, but I find the new elements in website user interfaces to be annoying. We will see.
