1. e3 is Vant Kruijs Opening. Don't do it. It's a lousy opening because it doesn't move the e pawn up far enough to help take control of the center and it blocks in your dark squared bishop.

It is a perfectly good opening. By your reasoning the French defense and the QGD transpositions and the nimzo Indian should go jump off the Golden Gate Bridge.

Usually you transpose. Learn things like the colle system. Actually it usually transposes into a colle, or you can do a stonewall, birds opening, reversed queens Indian defense, you name it.

I had just played against this, I had found it odd. But I went with it and regretted it at the end.

I just do it to push kings bishop to b5 or move the knights because most of them premove and blunder their queen or knights.
