Someone so easily intimidated probably wouldn't survive in a competitive envirnoment anyway.
Indeed.
Even some women can find other women intimidating.

Most of the threads that deal with these are intentionally incendiary. I thought it would be worthwhile to put some common sense into the mix...
Here are my thoughts:
Chess tournament venues are often dour affairs. Church halls, school rooms etc Environments not female friendly. How hard would it be for organisers to put up some net curtains and a few vases of fresh flowers around the venue ?
Stopping men oggling women chess players. The excuse that it is "natural" no longer washes. I suggest an extra arbiter to deal with this.
Whatever happened to "ladies first ?" A simple easy idea would be for ladies always to have the white pieces. When one lady is playing another the fattest should go first. Some scales brought by the organiser to the event - no big deal.
First prize, grading prize...how boring ! There should be a prize for the best looking lady at the tournament...
I hope this topic isn't hijacked with the usual silliness that surround this subject. Let's be constructive for a change.
They may find some of the stuff mentioned to attract women patronising.
*gawd..i'm using some big words for a monkey*
Encourage girls to get involved in the game at earlier ages.
Get rid of the ultra-conservative "old-boys" club mentality that unfortunately persists at a number of local chess-clubs (the profane and sexist language of the male members/attendees)
Stop sexualizing girls/women as they progress during their chess career (look at ChessLife magazine. It seems whenever they do photo-ops of the women chess players - they are "busty" and wearing rather provocative outfits, while the men chess players - they don't do that - they're not dressed up in tight pants and pouting their lips to the camera, etc. So why do they sexualize the women chess players?)
If you want women to stop using their gender, and to focus more on chess, work on abolishing rankings that focus on gender, rather than chess.

Very good point... there is a video i would like to show here on this very point....BUT.... can't, as the thread is not off topic.
Offer free beauty care products.
In the 1937 women's National Chess Federation championship tournament at the Marshall Club, first place, won by Adele Rivero, received a gold medal donated by Mr. H. M. Hartshorne. The second place prize, awarded to Mary Bain, was a beauty kit donated by Mr. C. A. Pfeiffer.
Man, do I know women, or what?!
I disagree that rankings are biased against gender.
Huh? Last I checked, ratings were based on performance. Geez.
chess becoming popular in south korea. many girls play now on internet.
But gossip, drama shows, kpop are 10000x more popular lol.

what would cause more women to play chess is more women choosing to play chess.
and how do you suggest we get more women choosing to play chess?
who's "we?" if they don't want to play, they ain't gonna play; if they want to, they will. honestly I don't care who plays or doesnt as long as I have someone better than me to play, and I will never run out of that, male and female
Hi Annabella...
Just felt like saying hi
Hello Mersaphe....hope everything is well :)
Who said Annabella was intimidated?
She is a strong woman.
[stronger than me]who said I was intimated? hahahahaha by WHO or WHAT?!

"we" who want more women to play chess, as in answer to "How to get more woman to play chess"
The question was never "do you (ab121705) want more girls to play, or want to play more girls?" It was not even "Do you care what gender the person you are playing has?
I think it's sad how many people are so desparate for female attention that they try to get them to play games they avoid like the plague.

who are you to determine what women should do? if they don't want to play chess, leave them alone and let them do what they choose to do. Women are capable of making their own decisions
