well how can i combine stockfish and arena???
How to use Stockfish ?

I attempted to use the edit board function (Stockfish 8 for android) and set up a game I had recently played at the point where I saw little chance to avoid a loss. With pieces in place, with computer vs computer, the game play allowed pawns to move backwards??

Yes, E..., I'll mention the free Lucas Chess. I use it instead of Arena when I'm analyzing with Stockfish 8 because I get more information. It gives you a set of indexes at the end of the analysis and user-friendly move-by-move ratings as well as user friendly lists of alternative moves, move sequences, etc.

Additionally, note that Stockfish, or any engine, can rate moves that are best for humans as blunders because the "blunder" may be a human move guaranteed to win - like moving a K into the opposition in an endgame - but the engine finds a faster mate doing something else which might be too complicated for a human to execute without making a likely error.
Additionally, you may see a familiar pattern that wins where Stockfish likes something else better. So be sure to take Stockfish with a grain of salt.
I look for Stockfish to tell me obvious mistakes, but also to indicate strategies when, for example, it keeps saying "e5" is the best move for a few moves in a row - indicating an attack up the middle is better than what I did, or that moving a Knight to an outpost is listed as the best move for a few moves in a row indicates that outpost is a key part of what would have been the best attack.

how to link stockfish with above arena link,??? please anyone....
1) Open up Arena.
2) Go to "Help"
3) Read the stuff for "Installing engines".
"Whew, that was hard..."

(hanging around to see if someone's going to mention Lucas Chess...It's just a matter of time...)
I really like Lucas Chess, and it comes with loads of free engines.

It's f***ng annoying why Stockfish site doesn't make this clear.
Well, the download page does say "What you're getting: just the Stockfish engine. You will need to use your own UCI-compatible chess program."
I suppose they leave it up to the user to google what that means. Although it could perhaps explain better what it means, and perhaps give some examples of UCI-compatible chess GUIs.
Unless you are a GM, there is not a lot of reason to feed arena a different engine. It comes with a strong one already, and while you can swap it to stockfish, there isnt much point. I think the default is rybka (?) but going off memory here.
Yeah who would like to use the best free and available when you can use something worse #sarcasm

It feels like you're in need of feeling superior to other people, so can I just say what a wonderfully clever and wise person you are?

You can use any old engine if you wish.
As in general rule in chess engines, 50+ elo stronger means, it can search moves 2x times effectively(cos of getting rid of bad moves during search).
As Stockfish 10 is +500 elo stronger than rybka 3, 10 -20 seconds search in your rybka 3 is approx equal to 1 sec search by stockfish 10.
Check those statstics of testing from a chess tiger engine authour.

Upgrade your engine or waste your time and electricity by your own!!

What are you talking about?

I want to add stockfish to my website. Is it available as a frontend library?
