I got banned for having multiple accounts but I never did anything wrong with them. One of them is my brothers account. What is wrong with having multiple accounts?

Jelly_Roll_Morton1

Can my accounts be restored please?

Community Policy - Chess.com

You'll find this:

That's why your accounts got closed... you broke the rules THAT YOU AGREED TO WHEN YOU CREATED YOUR FIRST ACCOUNT.

It doesn't matter if there is something wrong with having multiple accounts, that is forbidden on this site. Until they change that rule, you can't complain about it and be right. Best thing to do is to make a plan how to get them into removing the rule

But the other one is my brothers account.

And my sisters account is fine.

If your siblings also had accounts that were closed, they'll each need to contact support:

Just because you think you are special and that the rules that apply to the rest of us should not apply to you, does not mean anyone will go out of their way to help.

Follow the rules or find another site.

In team matches you can join the other team to spy on their notes.

In games you can play one account against the other to manipulate ratings / tournament results.

In social situations you can use multiple accounts to pose as different people.

In general you can use multiple accounts to avoid mutes or bans for bad behavior.

Just off the top of my head.

Did you read the TOS that you said you read when you joined?

OP is obviously a kid... and while I dislike kids in general, all these adults saying "those are the rules" without answering the question give the impression that the rule is pointless. It also makes the adults seem stupid, that they follow rules for the sake of following them.

A rare topic where I'm more annoyed with the adults than the kids.

emu pointed out "why"the OP had his accounts closed.

The topic title and first sentence of the OP points out "why" he was banned.

The topic title and OP ask why multiple accounts are an issue in the first place.

Again...emu pointed out the "why" his other accounts were closed.  And pointed out "why" its an issue.

As much as people want to hide behind this "I didn't do anything wrong."  When in fact they did.  All comes down to they didnt read what they were supposed to read.

HYPOCRITE!  You were once a kid yourself!  As was I and everyone else!  (In some cases, "is" rather than "was").

He did not,  and Llama was right to point that out because I immediately noticed this as a problem in the thread.  People have to understand exactly why its against the rules.  Even though it should be obvious and common sports sense,  its especially not in this community.

"Its to prevent rating manipulation or undermining of competitive matches and fair play."

How much clearer does it need to be made?  Its a site rule.  Do not create multiple accounts.

A better question is "what's the benefit of having multiple accounts?"

What do ya get out of it?

Data/Rating Manipulation!

Is something wrong with you?   That does not explain why at all.  Its the furthest thing form clear.   Lichess literally explains on there TOS why they are not allowed.  because it encourages rating manipulation.    Chess.com should do the same.

Did you ever try to use this thing called Common Sense.  All you have to do is think for 5 seconds what the problem with multiple accounts can be to come up with that conclusion!

Why should chess.com have to spell everything out?  Does that mean they need to specifically state every possible maniuplation on this site that is a violation?  Do we need to explain to you that things like Online Account Hacking, Online Prostitution, Online Cyberbullying, etc, are also against the Terms of Service?  Or have you finally figured out that some things in life are meant to be implied and that the brain should actually be used sometimes?
