I invented an opening, how do I get it named after me? I want it to be publicly recognized as a book opening. I beat a bunch of people using it. I think that's how most openings get named. Or maybe going back in time could help too.

What's the opening

Lord_Hammer

I invented this:

I present to you: Bishop’s Opening: Suicidal Variation

There is a well-established process for getting an opening named after you. You fly to the headquarters of the International Chess Openings Council. For three consecutive days you present yourself at the gate and declare your name. On the third day, the gate will be open and you will walk into the courtyard where there is a rack of spears. Then a dragon will enter the courtyard and you must take one of the spears and slay the dragon in single combat. If you succeed, your opening will be named after you and you will be a chess legend

As per requested I present to you the Dunder Mifflin attack. Like the Caro Kann, it was named after me Dunder, and the co-founder Mifflin. This is a project we've been working on for several days and we would like to see it rightfully published and recognized by Fide. I don't see any other way to see this opening get celebrated as an opening other than publishing a book, as a semi-literate student, I can say that that is impossible. I hope people remember this opening and the founder as one the most revolutionary openings and player in the 21st century.

Will there be a large ceremony and party held because of our newfound scientific discovery?

Well, I don't think everyone will play that way, because if it was me, I'd probably just take every piece you gave to me.

OMG, LOL, I hadn't laughed this hard in a while, do you mean literally, or illiterately?

That opening already has a name.

Sicilian defense Myers attack.

squaresun

This opening already exists. It is known as the Sicilian Defense: Myers Attack. Black's most common response to 2. a4 is 2. ... Nc6.

That's because some moron named Meyers wanted an opening named after him because he has nothing else that fulfills his life. How sad that you want a chess opening that named after you as a way to be remembered after your passing.

Doesn't matter what you think. Fact is, the opening is named after him and that wont change.

The days of having openings named after people are gone, because you have to win many games to get a novelty named after you. But since novelties today are all the result of chess engines, their value lasts a couple games at most. Then competitive chess players will have their engines find to key to neutralize the novelty.

The naming of an opening after a person is a very complicated process- Firstly, the opening should not lose outright, secondly it must not have been named yet and lastly you better make sure the person after which the opening will be named has a cool and pronounceable name.

PS - Why do we not have Komodo variation of the Sicilian? Chess engines should receive such honors too. We would not want them to go on strike, do we?

I have invented a way for people to fly! Yes it is true.  It is based on the saying: " An apple a day,  keeps the doctor away. " Now guess what 2 apples would do. And there goes the secret of flying human!
