I thought I Played a Great Game then Discovered I had a 16.7% Accuracy?

Played a game today where I thought I was playing on the next level.  I felt like I was channeling Magnus happy.png  I even passed up an obvious fork on the rook and queen, because I wanted to keep up the pressure and get the checkmate, which I get.

I analyzed the game after and the computer assigned an accuracy of 16.7% to me?  Can't you get that accuracy rating if you just randomly move pieces on the board?

What the heck?

IMKeto

It was a typical game between 2 beginners.  Littered with mistakes, blunders, and no semblance of a game plan.

I guess I have more work to do then.

I assume that you “felt” like you were playing well, when in reality your opponent didn’t capitalize on your mistakes. It happens.

Correct, I felt that I played well, but I guess the computer doesn't lie.

Obviously i have no idea how serious you take chess, or how serious you are about improvement.  if youre in the game for fun then carry on.  If youre in the game to get better?

Stop worrying about percentages.

Stop worry about move labels.

Stop worrying about accuracy numbers.

NONE of that stuff will make you a better player.  Al it is is an ego feed.

You want to get better?  Play slow time controls.  Double check your moves.  Do your own analysis.  ONLY use an engine to check for blunders and missed tactics.

Trading your Knight and Bishop for his Pawn and Rook (with 7. ... Bxf2+) is almost always a mistake. You might THINK that it looks good, because "it exposes his King"... but with both of your well-placed minor pieces (Bishop and Knight) already traded off, just what are you planning to attack that exposed King WITH?

I see.   You are right.  I got lucky.

Here's a very similar line, where White trades on f7, "exposing the enemy King"... but then it turns out that he doesn't have quite enough developed pieces left to maintain an attack.

It could be worse. You could get a 90% accuracy rating and lose. The percentage doesn’t matter. The ratings don’t matter either.

That is some of the best advice anyone can get!
