Cool pic, but no, you dink!  White didn't start to move first regularly until the 19th century.  And the first colors weren't black and white, they were neutral and red.

Chess was invented in Scotland. We just permit India & Africa to stake claims to it's origins for amusement.

It doesn't matter where it was invented, the international rule made it so that white would start first and that happen in Europe and also that made it easier for the newspaper, books etc.

Utter balderdash. White obviously got the first move because the Welshman who invented the first chess set was smart enough to know that the black paint on the other pieces wouldn't have dried yet. There's a simple and rational explanation for everything.
