oh i forgot to ask you borgqueen about  your example that show a positional in 21 moves and after that it went tactics the game.so my question is......you mean that in every grandmaster game in the beginning they go poistional moves first before going to tactics?i wait again to your response.

bgangioni

Well, one could say that tactics are used to set up a position...

I'd say your Strategy is your plan, and Tactics are the actual moves you use to execute that plan. I don't think that positional play leaves Tactics aside, but the differences from tactical play are in the objectives set:

Most of the time, a positional player will look for subtle advantages in position, rather than looking for advantages in material.

Hrm... and Kuro is still asking questions? I have mixed emotions about this thread. Don't ask me, I don't want to talk about it.

...

...

...

Really, don't ask.

And, BQ, when are you going to stop answering his questions? Rather, will you ever stop answering his questions?

Well, he at least has to get to 100 pages, right?

Graphite proves to be more efficient than ink, plus it makes for easy erasing. My keyboard is running low on eraser, because of the amount of errors I make.

And, Eebster, it's sad that 100 pages will unfortunately not be a record, but at least it will [can] be a milestone! Laughing

thank you borgqueen.i have another questions,so i try to go positional game in the beginning of game when i play to my brother in law but i forgot to see what his next plan or his next move because im conscentrating to positional game then i lost the game.so my question is i think that it is important first to know what is the plan of your opponent or his next move before going to positional game,am i right or wrong borgqueen?.my 2nd question is when i play to my cousin before, he said to me that it is important to go castle when i playing chess because he said that if my king are not in castled position i have no power to go offense,is he is right or wrong?.i wait again to your response borgqueen.

DukeOfNature

Just keep 'em coming, Kurogkug. We all wait to BQ's response.

I don't agree with that.   I'd suggest that positional play is used to set up tactical combinations.  Positional play moves to increase your position and/or reduce your opponent's position.  Tactics are the mechanical combinations that result in significant gains -- either material or positional but a lot of the time it is material.

Thank you BorgQueen! :)

Is this nostalgia, or a form of loathing? I can't tell. At least it's amusing.

Bloody pirates!

Very nice, TheGrobe.

Strategy= Plan (which can and sometimes have to be adjusted and or rearranged due to unforeseen circumstances). Anyway I thought I'll put my 2 bob in.

Like it! If there was a thumbs up button, I'd click on it, haha.

Ever thought of recording? =P

"There are two ways to achieve perfection: one is making no effort at all, the other is making a huge amount of effort"

Our friend here, TheGrobe, definitely makes for a good poet. I'm sure his original text went through some exhaustive editing before it was published in this thread, and I'd bet my right arm he can still think of some corrections, even though most of us would consider the job very well done.

Borges once said a writer publishes in order to stop correcting.
(He was probably quoting someone else, but it was him I was reading, anyway)

As for the time it took, I guess only TheGrobe can answer that.

Approximately two years if you count from the date when kurogkug first asked about "strategical position" in chess.com forums.

If kurogkug needs me to be exact, that was back in Oct 11, 2008.

TheGrobe

About 20 minutes -- no editing.

Eebster

In my experience, people tend to overestimate the amount of time required for short posts and underestimate the time required for long posts. Some rants just take forever to type.

Nobody asked you how long it took you to write those 8-10 page papers when you were an undergrad.
