i just played 3 min blitz... and im not very sure of this move

thats my move... and here is my opponent's move

im not quite sure about this move... as you can see im just 400. can someone explain it to me about this? is there like kind of rules that make this possible or is this just a bug?

That’s en passant. If your pawn passes through a square in which another pawn can capture, then they can still capture that pawn.

I’m not sure about this... I think HSFSteveO is correct. (But I still think it’s a hack)

Its not a hack. A pawn can move that way if a piece is diagonal to it.

It is funny how often this comes up. Maybe should be a pinned question? But yes that is en passant as others have mentioned. Good luck with your chess!

Np, btw do any of you think there should be a new gamemode where you have a timer that resets each turn so you can actually think about your move?

I think there should be a game mode like that.

Originally pawns could move one square always. In the 1500s, Europe decided to allow pawns to move two squares on the first move. Since this could be used to move pawns out of harms way, a nerf called en passant was introduced by the French to prevent this. It only works with pawns because other pieces were accelerated later so the pawns were developed before the other pieces got in the game and the rule wasn't adopted for the other pieces later.

Maybe there should be a pop-up before one's first game:

"Do you know what en-passant is? Yes/No/Not sure"
