Is 1100 a decent rating if I've been playing daily for 9 months?

I started playing daily  in June, 2018. The month prior to that I really started playing, having to real previous exposure to the game. The two months before I started playing regularly, I played a few games here and there and my blitz rating dropped as low as 335 cry.png. Realized I was playing with the ability of someone with a mental deficiency lol. As a result, I started getting mad.  I think every chess players knows what I mean when I say that, as much as I enjoy winning, I HATE losing even more. I started watching videos, and analyzing my games, different positions, became a member used tactics and lessons. It's taken awhile, but I've climbed my way blitz rating up to 1100 (although 1200 is probably more realistic. Playing in class or while I'm drunk etc. lol). I'm still clearly a beginner, but I want to know if I'm making decent progress, or if I should be higher rated by now. Looking for honest feedback!

P.s. 23 years old.

Those are good results, although I've seen some truly spectacular ones as well, on this site. I've been playing for six months and I just reached 1000 in rapid.

I would recommend a few things, but keep in mind; I am in no ways a master.  I would not measure your success by your rating, but by what you have learned.  I remember playing quite poorly when I first started, but only by learning from my mistakes did I improve.  I is a long process and not a comfortable one, but if you have patience, you will succeed.  I once heard it said that if someone plays the same openings over and over, they are either a patzer (beginner) or a master.  The idea there is that a beginner plays the same openings because that is all they know and a master plays certain openings as they know all of the variations of those openings.  I would start with that.  Pick a few openings that you can learn to play well for both white and black and learn how they play against other openings and pressures.  This will help you by learning where you went bad.  Consistency is key here.  As you analyze your games, you will e able to see that you were in "x" position here and this is how you were able to get through it, or where you went wrong.  The idea is that you are trying to get to a good middle game position to set up your end game.  Also the puzzle rush helps to develop tactics and mating positions and is also a great tool.  Just remember this is a game and is meant to be enjoyed, so HAVE FUN!!

I know a guy with a mental deficiency who recently improved to 2200... And that's not taking into account some of the other clearly mentally ill players who were amongst the best in the world- Fisher, Morphy, Rubinstein...

It is more than decent for a total beginner. grin.png If you still want to improve I can recommen to you Chessnetwork on Youtube. From Beginner to Chess Master Playlist.

in 1000 games i reached 1300 give or take a couple points, so i think with your 900 games your on the normal path to improvement

I take a look at few of your games. You're Intermediate level. You would easily beat your relatives and friends. If you're happy playing presently, no advice is needed from any of us.

Well, what exactly would it mean to you if we told you you should be higher rated by now?

be depressed probably

If you were a "prodigy" 1100 would be dreadful. If you were an absolute beginner 1100 would be fantastic. At this point it looks like for you, 1100 is very good progress. Everything is relative.

Always look at your percentile. If you're percentile says your 60 percent, you have the potential to beat 60 percent of all chess players out there. Yes, 1100 is very good for only playing in that short of time, it took me 2 years to get there. You should be in the 1300-1400 range very shortly. Great job!

Well 1100 is a decent rating .Everyone has their own opinion on ratings.Objectively, you can look at the percentiles in your stats page that will tell where you stand.

Anyway,if you enjoy playing chess then rating should not matter, its not as if you want to be a chess pro.In case you do then get professional coaches they will guide you better than random people who do not even know you.

Average opponent rating is 1000 plus at any given point in time. 1100 is above that average, so I would say yes, that's a decent rating. It will improve the more you play ( and learn.)

i have just reached 1100 in 5 months idk if it is good or bad ..

Antihero88

1100 is not bad. You can get to 1300-1400 by learning openings and endgames.
